Hope it happens. I can't wait to see Cotto's demeanor change in round 1 when that first hard jab lands right in his face and he realizes what he's in there with.
You should change: Roach "Cotto will fight Canelo then GGG"!!! to: WBC "Cotto has to fight GGG after Canelo"!!! And to be honest with both fighters, this is a must happen fight!
Cotto got badly mauled vs PacMan and Clottey. 5-6 yrs ago. GGG won't get badly hurt with those short hooks. His defense and pure strengty will keep Cotto at distance. Only prob is, Gennady may be significantly better pure boxer at this point. Canelo would be better and could go distance possibly. But hurt GGG? Not IMHO
I agree, Cotto is a really great boxer, gave us a lot of moments and been there with the best. Those 2 are exciting fights. I think that Freddy is now in his corner is underrated here. This gives him chance against GGG and for fans this uncertainty of exciting fighters clashing in is incredible One thing that is especially interesting to see which will be known only when fight starts is if GGG will have to respect Cotto's power and how fight would go from there. Right now he just walks through punches and doesn't care if he gets hit. On top of that he maintains his balance and always watching and hitting precisely where defense is lacking and into critical spots: liver, jaw, temple. With enormous power. That's deadly combination and it is not surprising he demolished those pretty good, but not top tier boxers so easily. Now when GGG become known and brings money to the table good fights will happen. And it is very exciting to wait for it.
That's where I would have to disagree with you, put the Martinez of the Pavlik/Williams fight in there and its a short night's work. I'm a big fan of Miguel, followed him since his junior welter days and am glad he got the MW title for his legacy but unfortunately I think his MW reign is a bit of a sham, he was more than maxed out already at JMW. I'd be surprised if he got past Canelo and if he did GGG would def be a step too far IMO. Stevens for my money hooks harder than Cotto at MW and GGG didn't seem unduly troubled by him. I get what you are saying that Cotto would show some skills and better movement to avoid punches compared to Stevens but its just delaying the inevitable.
