I'd take Whitaker here. I appreciate Mosley was well past his best fighting Mayweather, as was Mayweather, but I think the comparison in style is certainly a credible one. I appreciate Floyd can be more of a pocket fighter, but Whitaker has the perfect style to counter act Shane's best abilities and no one mastered that style quite as well as Pea. I don't think it would be a landslide, but I'd take Whitaker by a clear decision.
Whitaker by clear UD. Mosely hit harder, but was nowhere near the boxer Pernell was. Shane wouldn't land a clean shot all night. No way Pernell hurts Shane, but, he won't have to. He would cruise to a wide decision.
As much of an unstoppable force as Sugar was at 135lbs, Pea was that much greater the unmovable (or rather, too fluidly moving) object.
Whitaker is the wise pick...ATG defense, reflexes, footwork, weird southpaw style, great jab, ring general etc...But bear in mind Mosely was one of the most physically powerful lightweights ever...good power, great speed ,hands and feet. I think Pete would edge Sugar...But Shane gives him major trouble if he goes all out and fights aggressively. Shane might find Whitaker more often then he is being given credit for here. Whitaker barely for me.
Not only do I agree, bet the farm we'd see Shane in the corner, early, pouting as he did in the first Wright match. Sweet Pea would literally reduce Mosley to the equivalent of a fistic limp dick.
I can see a case for either guy here. Mosley had tremendous speed and power at 135. Contrast that with Whitakers brilliant defence, and you have a great fight that is a pick em, for me.
I like what NM had to say in reference to Wright. And Whitaker at his best was a defensive whiz... Shane was a beast at 135, but he can,t hang with Sweat Pea... Whitaker by wide UD...
He did, but what is he going to be allowed to do with all that speed and power? We can't presume they were anything Pea couldn't neutralize when a) they were never really displayed versus anyone even approaching Pea's caliber, or hell, anyone elite period (though it was clear from how much they were displayed consistently against solid opposition to say that his speed and power at 135lbs truly were special...) and b) Pea was able to neutralize the power of the likes of Mamba, Ramirez, etc or the, if not speed (as nobody was in his class) at least timing of guys like Nelson or Haugen.
How the hell would Mosley win this? I feel like i'm missing something reading through the thread. Whitaker 10-2 is how I feel about it...
