why is it that researchers...on IBRO,BOXREC, ETC... can't even get dates right?...

    For example...here is the info I found on Joseph Nathaniel Walcott "Barbados Demon" who was born on April 9, 1872 at Barbados, British West Indies, son of James Edward Walcott & Rebecca Shepherd. Joe was married to Lizzie Dugan, she was the daughter of Frank Dugan and Annie Dobson.... They were married July 17, 1894. They had a daughter, Josephine born 1895, a son, Joseph Nathaniel, Jr. born 1897, and another daughter Lilac A. born 1898. They had two children who died young, a daughter, Natalie L. born 1901 and died 1904 and a son, William P. born 1902 and died 1903. note: Joseph Nathaniel Walcott "Barbados Demon" second wife was Elizabeth M. (Cooper) Byran, Byran by her first husband, daughter of George Cooper & Mary Mansfield. Joe Walcott was baptized at Saint Andrew, Barbadoes, Caribbean. ....this took me a few hours only...I have more on many fighters...but anyway, we need a website for boxers where we all can view copies of real documents and yes 100
    % next day newspaper accounts, video with fighters/managers/trainers/ seconds/handlers/... talking about the fighter and their fights...now that would be something :)

    Being a Boxrec editor myself, I can tell you from my own experience that all we've had to go by for years is what has been written in the newspapers in interviews with the fighters, who often lied about their ages.

    The genealogy movement is helping to clear all that up thank goodness. But truth be told, their search engines S-U-C-K and are nearly impossible to navigate (I cancelled my Ancestry.com membership because of this. Didn't have the time or patience to slog through their S.I. and try to make sense of it). Why can't they all be simple, like Newspaperarchive.com or how the Google newspaper archives used to be? :twisted:

    For many people, their birth information often varies from record to record, especially if they were born in foreign countries or during the 19th Century. So many times, the given month and day of birth for a certain person are the same, but the given year is different. I myself use the Ancestry.com and FamilySearch (which is free, unlike Ancestry.com) websites to find the birth and death information of boxing figures on a regular basis.

    At times, I rely on the 1900 U.S. Census to pinpoint the year that a certain boxing figure was born, especially if he was born during the 1890s. The 1900 U.S. Census (among those available to the public) is the only one that has the month and year that each individual was born. One boxing figure's year of birth was listed as 1900 or 1901 on many records, but the 1900 Census records show that he was born in 1899. That means I list him as being born in 1899.

    If you dont have a contemporary birth certificate, not a certified COPY but an actual contemporary certificate its hard to pin down a birth date using census etc because those dates change from report to report.
