British boxers that should have done better?

Henry Wharton anyone - he lost 3 world title fights on decisions, and retired at 30 or 31 I think.

 

Def. just happened to fight some very good champs.

I was surprised burns stopped mitchell so easy, if burns was going to win id thought it would be points or a mitchell stoppage. Mitchell still has time but indo worry about his chin

Beats one of the greats in Pedroza and then loses the title in his 3rd defence to a very average Steve Cruz....

Tough, hard hitting, but if only he would move his head occasionally... even just a little

Just seemed to prefer to place his head next to his opponents and trade power shots to see who drops first

On the subject of Mitchell, you must admit the lad has some skills and power. Ok admittedly, he has duffed up badly when it mattered, ie the two world title fights, but he always had potential to do more.

Wharton was a real handful for Eubank and Benn, had he won a couple more rds in either fight he could have well got the decision in both fights.

 

Hamed. Easily the biggest waste going.

 

Don't really think he was a waste as he achieved a lot,but he failed at the elite level against Barrera. No disgrace in that,but I don't think he went into that fight with confidence,though I heard from a very good source that he DID train for it. He couldn't intimidate Barrera,theres a difference between Mexico city and Wincobank.
I always say Kirkland went missing because he probably thought Duran was after a return. Seriously,though,he wouldn't have beat him twice though it was a great achievement. Plus remember Colin Jones stopped him twice and a lesser fighter in Buck Smith knocked him out. HHe came across as a decent guy and I wish him well,though.
Herol was terrific,I saw him a lot but nobody can say he didn't get his chances. Mc Callum for me was just a bit better,a great boxer. Graham would have beat Jackson 4 out of 5 but lost in the one that counted,quite legitimately. He proved in his last shot how brilliant a boxer he had been,but was just a bit past it. Got to take your chances.

Wharton couldn't deal with Benn's movements and only came into the fight in the last few rounds.
Eubank was in control from start to finish (no posing from Eubank whatsoever that night) and he gave Wharton a right beating at times.
