Do people belive he just backed out against fighting ward or that he couldnt due to his brain injury?

i personally think - i´m no mentalist though - that direll simply hadn´t fought a live opponent before the super 6, so when he stepped ud, he realized that this sport is really hard and hurtfull at the top.

He ran, he dived and did everything he could to not fight against froch. Agaisnt abraham, he folded like like a card house in a hurrican. Abraham was coming on strong, he got his chance to get out of there and dirrell took it.

He is not fit for this sport mentally, but it´s only a select few, who can operate at that level. Great athletic ability, but lacks fortitude and the mental toughness to compete.

I think, that he knew ward would pick him apart. I can´t remember it exactly, but wasn´t the excuse at first, that they were friends and wouldn´t fight?

In regards to the brain damage, i just dont think it exits. There were numerous threads about it, and iirc someone actually tried to find dr shaw high or whatever the name was and couldnt find a doctor with that name.

I know it´s somewhat popular, to call fighters bums, glass jawed and or what ever, but i´m not doing that by any means, this is my objective opinion.

Had direll had, lets say ward´s kessler´s or froch´s attitude, then he´d be having the same kind of success as his comtemporaries. He actually competed at world class level, without the right mentality, and that tells you something about the athletic ability he had.

I honestly think dirrell and ward both thought they would have titles by the 3rd fight in the tournament, and both wanted a bigger payday for that fight. They came up through the amateurs together

Yeah I kind of share your opinion , his reaction after the fight and seeing him on them super 6 documentary things he seemed real kind wary about his story and the whole situation just didn't seem right , the shot Abraham hit him with didn't look too bad either but it may well have caused damage but I thought the whole situation felt kind of off, when the fight wasn't too far away with ward absolutely nothing was sorted

It's a real mystery. He was the most athletic and naturally gifted fighter in the super 6 but I think the AA fight rattled him. He was horribly fouled and it may have made him realise how dangerous this sport really is. Impossible to say for sure without talking to him in depth or understanding his reasons. But clearly he's never been the same since the AA fight.

fighter X looks brilliant against lower level guys, he steps up, does well, but lacks the cutting edge to succeed. He was close to succeding, closer then the usual guy who couldn´t make it, perhaps thats why he is being talked about still, but his story as a whole isn´t out of the ordinary.

It´s like talking about malignaggi with power, it would be amir khan with a chin and so forth. The type of guys who lack that one thing to go all the way, that one something is holding them back. Although lacking the right mentality, is worse then having no power or chin, it is still just one weakness.

His story isn´t out of the ordinary, if we exclude his brain damage and dr shah high lie. It´s quite sad really, i like boxing, but when i think of direll i often forget his ability and remember the bs which ended his career.

truth is ward didn't want to fight dirrell more than dirrell not wanting to fight ward.
dirrell is too fast and skilled fighting outside for ward
