Tyson or Foreman: Who hit harder?

In your opinion, who was the harder puncher, Tyson or Foreman?

Fist of all they both got the job done. Satisfactory results on both sides.

Tyson was sharper. Clean and fast, with the ability to hit someone from their blind spot before they could brace themselves for impact. But Foreman had heavy hands and so much strength behind a punch. You get the impression even if you had time to brace yourself it would make the same result as Tyson hitting you blind.

Interestingly at world level there are not too many one punch finishes for either fighter. Tyson has the Botha and WIlliams KO and Foreman has the Rodriguez and Moorer KO. At world level I think that's it.

I would guess Foreman in terms of raw power, but it is impossible to be sure.

 

If by chance I ever run into them both, I'll ask them to each punch the guy standing next to me, then ask the said person what he thinks.

 

That is entirely dependent on whether the guy is still alive after taking the first clean shot from whomever goes first...

 

Different kinds of power, tyson is more explosive, much faster and more technique. Foreman like power always intrigues me, not a lot of velocity, but so much mass is behind those punches that they smash and batter. I guess it's a special technique itself, so perhaps saying Tyson's punches use more technique is inaccurate.

 

Foreman was definitely the harder one shot puncher although Tyson had great explosive power putting all of his body into his punches relying more on positioning and combinations in his prime.
The fact that George was still competitive with the upper echelons of the heavyweight division well into his forties is a testament to his raw power relying far less on technique than Tyson did.

 

Holyfield said Foreman hits harder.

Tyson's punching seems more like a cannon, Foreman's like a wrecking ball. Hard to tell who hit harder for a single punch, maybe George, think of Frazier being manhandled like that. Tyson was certainly capable of delivering better combinations and could therefore probably accumulate damage on an opponent faster.
