I stopped reading when you said Chris Byrd was better than Ken Norton, somewhere around the sixth line. Congrats on keeping me interested in your trash until then though.

Wlad Klitschko is way beyond Liston in terms of ring accomplishments and length of title reign. He's on a par with Holmes. They are a bit alike in that they were taller than most of their opponents, fought behind a power left jab that backed their opponents up and then followed up with powerful overhand rights and right crosses. Holmes, though fought some real dogs and often bragged that after a tough fight with say a Cooney that he needed some easy money fights like tiny Scott Frank and Marvis Frazier. Wlad always has gone after whomever the fans figured were the best and most dangerous like Peter twice, amateur standout Chagaev, power puncher and very fast David Haye, etc. Wlad's had a standout career and is still going after a decade of total dominance. Just an all time great heavyweight champion.

If that's true then what happened in the Purrity, Sanders and Brewster fights? The top guys from the 80s and 90s beat the absolute dog**** out of that bunch...

    Oh really?

I don't remember Holmes getting knocked out by journeymen on three separate occasions during his prime years....

I don't remember Holmes ever unifying, either.

Wlad hadn't had access to a top notch professional trainer. At that time he was being trained by amateur trainers. He hooked up with one of the greats, Manny Steward and learned how to actually defend himself. Basically Manny brought Wlad's defensive skills up to match his incredible offensive boxing talent and the rest is history. Also, most greats like Joe Louis have early losses which they learn from and get better. Most successful people learn more from their occasional losses than their victories.

Schmeling knocking out Joe Louis is one of the best wins in Heavyweight history, but I don't see many ranking ol' Max top 3 for it.

Besides, here's a list of the rated fighters from Sonny's best years (59-63). Not exactly a murderer's row.

    LOL.

Is that the best you can come back with? Unifying?

Unify WHAT exactly? Unifying titles is what PAPER champions do. PAPER champions like Klitschko. Holmes, OTOH, was lineal. Lineal champs don't need to unify because lineal titles *aren't made out of paper*.

    1 + 1 = 2

Wlado was trained by Steward for the Brewster fight so you can take all of your excuses and throw them out the window...

Corrie Sanders was not a journeyman.

Just FYI, Wlad started a new lineage by defeating #2 HW Povetkin and is therefore the consensus lineal HW champion. Oh I know you don't like hearing that but I love rubbing it in you know?

    1 + 1 = 2 :deal

You're right. He was a semi-RETIRED from boxing pro golfer. Journeyman status is giving him too much credit.

The FACT remains, Wlado was under Steward for the Brewster fight so the "he was being trained by amateur trainers" excuse goes out the window.

FACTS. Learn to live with them...

And exactly HOW many times has Wlado defended his lineal title?

HOW many times did Holmes defend his?

    Holmes >>> Klitscko

    1 + 1 = 2
