Frazier rated Joe Louis number 1 and Marciano # 2 and he rated himself #3

"Joe Louis is the greatest heavyweight champion of all time. Rocky Marciano is second only to Louis. Where do I rate Ali? Somewhere below me. I beat him, and if I could beat him, no doubt Joe Louis and Rocky Marciano could have beaten him."
    -- Joe Frazier

Frazier was never floored by Mathis or Cummings.

I have to agree with Balder here. Speed would be the difference in this fight and Frazier was the faster fighter. Constant pressure, bobbing and weaving while whipping in punches all the time. Frazier also had a reach advantage and was 20 lbs heavier (205lbs to Rocky's 185lbs). 2 grinders going head to head in a fight to the finish and one of the greatest fights of all time. Both men might hit the canvas at some point but both would get up and keep fighting. I can't see Rocky KOing Frazier however. An out of shape poorly prepared Frazier took hellacious bombs from a 6'4" 220 lb strong as hell clubber in George Foreman, got knocked down something like 5 or 6 times and kept getting up. Can anybody see Marciano doing the same to a prime Frazier? I don't. What I see is Frazier finding a home for his hook late in the fight and cutting Marciano badly enough for the ref to stop it. If Rocky is going to win this fight his best chance is to catch Frazier early as Joe was a somewhat slow starter. Trouble was Marciano was a somewhat slow starter as well. This is one of the best mythical matchups out there but I'll take the bigger faster busier Frazier late by TKO around the 13th or 14th most likely due to cuts over a game Marciano.

Joe would rather have eaten his own leg than give Ali any credit Bummy, so he's not exactly a good source to quote.

I remember I read it, but it is not there anymore.
I also remember boxrec stated that Carl Williams was down in the 1st vs Bert Cooper, but it never happened.
I will edit it now and delete it from my post.

    Source?

Ill give a quote and provide the source.
Ali and Frazier in conversation August 1970
" Leaving off myself and you who you think would be the best two to fight the all time title? " Ali

"Oh you mean like Joe Louis and Jack Johnson?"Frazier

    " That's who I think ." Ali

"Well I mean really ,guys like Dempsey ,Marciano,Tunney, can fight ,but they no comparison to the black man.In Ring power I mean. You got one or two white guys that may really fight,no body's overlooking any good fighter .But they no comparison in power to the best black fighter." Frazier
Excluding themselves , both Ali and Frazier picked Louis and Johnson as the best heavyweights up to their time[1970]

" The Greatest My Own Story Muhammad Ali".

I read that book too. Frazier tended to change his mind a lot over the years about a lot of things. Especially his feelings about Ali. One moment all was fine - He and Ali had moved on etc then he'd be slagging him off in the next quote. All depended on what mood Joe was in that day,I reckon

Joe Frazier, beat arguably the greatest heavyweight of all time....With one good eye. What an incredible fighter. When I think of destructive left hooks, Smokin' Joe, always comes to mind first.

Joe Frazier was the patron saint of left hooks and that time (1971) he'd have given any heavyweight in history a go.Marciano's leaning away from shots defence/crouch wouldn't have worked against the bigger heavies.I think Ali would have had an easy night vs rocky that he'd never have had vs smokin' Joe.

Tyson in his PRIME was 214-220.

He was bigger in weight & muscle, of course more often less so in height & reach, than all those you listed above in their primes.
Except jeffries was around 225 in his prime. Though he varied.

Dude, why are you plagarizing posts from another forum? This entire post comes from a post at this site in 2011.

    http://a-j-s-boom-boom-room.2299399...er-Marciano-or-Frazier-tp3842847p3880746.html

Why plagarize? Do you not have your own opinion? :patsch
