That quote you drew up doesn't in anyway contradict or refute that Calzaghe hadn't been chasing a Jones fight since about 2002. The article the quote came from is from 1999. At the time Joe was not known and still building up recognition and because of this he would have been horrendously short changed if he had fought Jones. In that article he says that he is looking for big paydays to support his 3 children, nothing wrong with that.
Now where did he ever "admit he wasn't on Jones level"? Your just making crap up. He simply refers to Jones as a "good fighter".

Skip ahead a few years and Calzaghe racks up several more defences of his WBO SMW world title including defences over champs like Woodhall, Veit and Brewer. Now he has more bargaining leverage to demand a fair split. This is when he goes after the top dogs in Hopkins and Jones(both of whom are still well in the primes of their careers).

During this time in the the quote I previously posted, Jones admits fighting Calzaghe wouldn't have been the right choice to make. He was clearly ducking Joe during this period just like Hopkins did and like Pavlik and Taylor would later.

Joe was never on. Jones level even he knows it ..Please ducking Joe yeah ok :lol:He's fought bigger punchers better boxers why the hell would,he have ducked him ..If anything if Joe really wanted it he would, have got over his fear of flying along time ago and pursued the fight similar to how Hatton chased Mayweather !

You can't chase a guy who isn't willing to fight you. When Joe called him out for ducking him for years, Jones plainly admitted he had his eye on Calzaghe as an opponent but side stepped him. He was ducking just like HGHopkins was ducking Calzaghe.

Please stop we all know Joe wasn't chasing **** that's why he waited til Jones was brutally KO ed to fight him even told his son who started crying after he saw images of a young Roy he said don't worry son he isn't that good any more "

Your boy never chased Roy this is the same guy who had to be talked into fighting a guy like Lacy yet he really wanted Jones :rofl

Jones admittedly sidestepped Joe for years. You can't get a fight when the other guy doesn't want to fight you.

Jones was the one who was eager to sign to fight Joe after the Hopkins fight because he saw that he was well past. He was slower, had been in may tough fights, the injuries had crept up and he couldn't spar or train hard anymore for the last few years of his career. Whether you care to admit it or not, Jones was in good shape and had temporarily regained his form around the time of this fight with 3 rebound victories and 2 great performances against Sheika and Lacy after.
Even the legendary trainer Manny Steward who was a guest commentator for HBO had stated that Roy was in great shape for the fight and his reflexes were very good, while stating that Calzaghe was not fighting his best fight. Manny also said that Joe would have been a very tough fight for Jones at any point in his career because of his awkward style, handspeed and workrate.

Joe was in such poor condition, he had reconciled with the fact that he couldn't fight anymore and the Jones fight was his last one. Despite the fact that he's bloated out of shape, couldn't spar at all and was clearly a shadow of his former self, he's busting up Roy's face and body with 6-8 punch combinations that Roy had no answer for.

LOL Calzaghe had so many injuries going into the Lacy fight that he couldn't spar at all the entire camp and then he goes in and gives Lacy the worst one sided beating in boxing history, completely ruining him forever.

Did you forget that Hopkins is a felon and did 4years in prison? Hopkins can't carry Joe's gym bag.

Joe was content to hide out in the UK fighting total cans for 90+% of his career while Jones was racking up big paydays fighting on HBO and being universally recognized as P4P#1. Why would Roy go out of his way to fight that no mark?
