Strange for me...a non Hweight post... Any thoughts on this from our senior posters...a real British affair .....i think they were never likely to meet as from memory their time just missed clashing ?
yeah, durability would make the difference in the end, though the more experienced peak kaylor(post Drayton) that was capable of tightening things up and boxing disciplined could make for a tough competitive fight. Even that one could get drawn into a war though, as the Christie feud showed, and if he does that with Minter it would be a great fight, but almost certainly one where he gets starched by a big left hand at some point, probably after various shifts in momentum and knockdowns. If he fights more like he did against Sibson and Graham it would be an interesting fight, as he's got the range, power and offensive skills to do very well. Kaylor would have been very good if he'd had a strong chin.Lacking one made him one of the more exciting, unpredictable middleweights of his era though, with his tendency to get drawn into wars.
I concur.Minter is a league above kaylor and because of all the cut eye defeats on his record which go down as KO losses, yanks think he was brittle. The Hagler debacle doesn't help his cause either
I picked Christie to beat Kaylor.I though Christie would go all the way from what I'd seen in the amateurs. I was surprised Kaylor went the distance with Sibbo
Logically Minter wins, but 'boxing logic' is often an oxymoron and Minter busted opened with a dirty look; so... Minter by comfortable decision.
I picked kaylor but then I thought that christie was a bit over hyped . the seys fight I will never understand why his manager made that fight. seys was limited but had a decent punch and was obviously the bigger man . Then when graham handled seys so easily alarm bells really started ringing . Sorry rambling , anyway I was a lot more fanatical then than I am now about boxing , I seem to remember that after the seys fight until fighting kaylor , Christie's opponents apart from maybe one or two all were picked after being defeated in their previous contests . I think the other one/two were not exactly on a winning streak
You've underlined why people rightly say graham was underrated amongst other things.yeah, Christie fell away after fighting kaylor you're right.
Anyone know how Minter is these days ? Kaylor lives in California and has done for a while...married with kids he works part time as a fitness instructor...he sounds very 'punchy' though.
Minter likes a drink and is a big hit in the gay community for some reason ????? I think Kaylor says him and Christie get along OK now.
Can you remember Errol's brother lloyd he was not a bad fighter but he had probably the most annoying voice I have ever heard , I used to turn the sound down during his interviews after his fights
I believe he has chilled out a bit on the drinking now, he used to be a nightmare in Crawley when his drinking was at its worse.
him and his brother, Mickey, used to spar with Chris and Kevin Finnegan. They'd knock 7 bells out of one another then have a few beers
