Maybe not that high, but to me definitely top 35-50 idk. I don't rank Floyd or Manny in my top 20 and maybe not even in my top 25. They might be in the 30ish range. Actually Bhop might be on the same lines as them, but he's doing great things in different ways. Hard to say.

i'm not sure he's that high up on the list, but he is high. if he beats Kovalev, look for a lot more people to make that claim though.

Just to clarify, are you saying that you didn't think Tarver had a claim to being the legit champ at light-heavy? Or are you saying that Hopkins beating him wasn't enough to for him to somehow make his claim legit?

Incidentally, I 100% agree that Hopkins is not top 20, but I think he has a strong case for top 50, and not withstanding some of your valid points, I think his freakish longevity gets him a bonus of sorts due to the inherent nature of its unique place in history.

Hopkins is my favourite fighter ever but top 20 is hard to crack as there have been so many great fighters. He's definitely top 50 for me but top 20 is a stretch.

If he beats Kovalev and Stevenson ending up being the undisputed light heavyweight champion at 50 it would be hard to deny him a spot in the top 20 or higher.

He's probably top 30 no lower than 40 for me... A true legend.

Hell yes, even if he loses to Kovalev. When is the next time you will see a 49 year old do what Hopkins has done(and continues to do) in the most dangerous sport in the world?

He has a great record but a horrible style that isn't that exciting to watch. He is an ATG but he divides opinion. Even in what is considered his best performance against Trinidad he holds and hits ,hits on the blinside of the ref in the clinch, (which he usually initiates) Having said that, this is all a part of his ring iq and do anything to win attitude and Ali done all of these things too.

I stated a while ago I would consider him top 10 ATG if he becomes undisputed at LHW. But yes, right now I still think he is top 20.

However, I am 24 and have not been watching boxing for 50+ years so the old timers (talking 20's 30's era) don't really rank that high for me.

Nobody will ever do what Hopkins is doing right now. Unified champ at nearly 50.

Anything outside of the ring has nothing to do with where you rank a fighter

Given all the great fighters in the history of our sport, definitely not top 20. Even top 40 is a push for me. His best victories have been over smaller men and I can't think of one great fighter that he has beat in their prime. Also, losses to fighters like Dawson and Taylor don't help his case. Based on longevity, he is top five. Based on resume, top twentty is a stretch for me.

If he beats Kovalev at 49 years old, he has to be.
