I can only think of a few men that would make him pause at that weight and under.
    Langford decent chance.
    Satterfield lively while it lasts.
    Sharkey as above.

Do you ****ing people even know how to read? There is no inference in the slightest about how Marciano would do against Jones.

I'd say Langford, Dempsey, Tunney, Charles and Holyfield.
with only Langford and Dempsey perhaps being favourites.

(I refuse to make a call on Greb - probably too lazy to think it through.)

If Marciano is the greatest H2h fighter of all-time, there's a definite inference that he'd beat RJJ.

But he also said very respectful things too, he wasn't laughing when the interviewer chuckled and was keen to point out at the kronk gym he had more posters of Rocky than Ali because of his accomplishments and being the greatest over achiever in heavyweight history.

I thought all those short comings he brought up to describe marciano were mentioned as something Rocky overcame to still be sucsessful as an inspirational champion. his problem with Marciano was chiefly size more than anything else.

Steward believed in giant heavyweights. I once saw him do a talk where he said he liked tall long boxers coming forward because once they can do that they still have the edge on reach if ever they have to back up.

Steward based his list on signature wins against significant fighters. He was a lot less keen on Jack Johnson and rated two of his own boxers in the top ten. Foreman above Holmes would not be too popular with many historians either. But Steward is a good judge.

I agree with the underlined the Rockette Fans are hysterically defensive of their hero.:yep
    Thanks for pointing it out:good

    Q. What would be the point of raising questions about Marciano's ability to overcome certain styles and opponents if one did not wish for responses from both those that are his fervent admirers ,and those that see the possibility of him having problems with some fighters ?:huh
Isn't that what a debate consists of?

People with polar opposite opinions discussing and exchanging views?:think

What would be the point of either faction confining itself to discussion with only with those that agreed with it?
That would be just preaching to the converted would it not?:huh

    Q. What is the significance if any of either faction taking the lead in creating Marciano threads, either pro or con?
Both factions are surely keeping Marciano's name before the eyes of the boxing fan on this Forum?

In doing so are they not promoting healthy discussion of his respective abilities and evaluation of both his strengths and weaknesses, his plusses and his minuses?:think

In short: WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM?

    Complete nonsense.

Marciano's defenders are as bad if not worse than Tyson's defenders. If anything they are far more rabid than his detractors.

Try offering up his world title fights record and the indisputable dates of births of the 5 men he fought those 7 title fights against, and you will be accused of all kinds of bull**** by his fanboy types. Pointing out the respective ages of the men he fought in title fights is NOT infantile, or negative. It is stating facts.

I don't see how Steward was being disrespectful in pointing out the obvious?
Marciano was clumsy, he did have poor balance he was small he did cut,he did have an abnormally short reach for a heavyweight , he was around 185lbs.
    These are facts not criticisms.
The insecurity on here is baffling sometimes.:huh
Steward did not ,as some Rockettes do ,consider the likes of Walcott and Charles all time great heavyweights ,If you've seen the interview you know that.

Oh I agree. Those are indeed the facts. I was just saying that I didn't realise steward was presenting those facts in a derogatory way. The impression I got was Steward still saw Rocky as a great fighter but did not categorise him among the super sized heavyweights.

There are more great fighters than just the ones in the top ten. Patterson is a great fighter just not top ten etc etc. Walcott and Charles are great fighters just not top ten.
