For an unfortunately short time, Lloyd was a brilliant fighter, wasn't he? He was very talented and ultra aggressive; a cracking boxer all round.
Don Curry had the flu had not been able to spar & train properly he should never have fought. His Manager Dave Gorman & trainer Paul Reyes wanted to pull him out but promoters insisted he fought. He was overweight & had to sweaty some off . He entered the ring weak as a kitten A 100% Curry would have decimated Honeyghan
Youre right that POS Leonard backstabbed Don Curry over the Hagler fight but despite many offers would never get in ring with Don
But surely, if Curry was that much better than Honeyghan, he would of pushed for a rematch? I am sure it would have made sense financially for both parties, so why didn't it happen?
Sal, how do you see the 154 version of Curry doing against the Honeyghan of their actual fight? I'm not too sure the outcome would have been much different.
Loudon, FastHands, StevieG - Many thanks indeed, I remember watching the fight Live on TV and knew the US cognoscenti were selling Lloyd Short, and perhaps Talents aside.. Had no inkling of that Determination Lloyd was Bringing with him.. Stracey Vs Napoles Lloyd vs Curry Brook Vs Porter The Brits do seem to Prosper at Welter ....Sometimes..
It may well not have been different, but the 154-pound Curry and the Curry that sliced and diced Larocca, Jones, and McCrory was not the same fighter. Even back in 1985 when he first made forays into the junior-middles he wasn't the same. That extra seven pounds robbed him of his strength advantage and his power wasn't moving opponents like it had at 147.
