Did Holyfield ever have a rep for headbutts before the steriods made him rapidly lose his hair up at heavyweight or was he always a butter but the bald head just made it more noticeable?

Also Larry Holmes was notorious for thumbing with the old style gloves.

Thumbing , probably using loaded/engineered gloves/wraps - Ali and Frazier
Excessive holding and hitting - Ali
Holding behind the head and uppercutting - Lewis

    Thumbing - Larry Holmes
Wearing trunks until chest height and faking low blows - Hopkins
    Headbutting - Hopkins
Wrist and forearm locks and twists during EXCESSIVE clinching - another one where Tyson excelled.
Engineered wraps - Trinidad , Margarito
Headbutts , elbows , excessive clinching - Tyson and Marchegiano.

And yes , Duran deserves a mention
Super Chemical Jab - Liston (BE posted here but did not mention it in this thread)

Marciano - Hitting after the bell and on the break. Hitting low. Holding and hitting against the ropes. Rabbit punching.

1.Humberto Gonzalez ... The Muay Thai of headbutting in a boxing ring.

2.Julio Ceasar Chavez elbowing and uppercuts with his shoulder. Doubtful he would have been champ with clean fighting.

3.Andrew Golata punching in the testicles.

4.Roberto Duran grappling and uppercutting while holding behind the head.

    5. James Toney steroid rage.

Agapito Sanchez (RIP) was dirty as hell, i've never seen a fighter throw as many low blows as he did, almost every fight of him started with a combo that usually ended with him landing a couple of low blows. From the fights i have seen of him theres not one where he doesnt go low multiple times a round.

Is it me or does there seem to be a connection between great fighters and dirty fighters and vice versa?

Holyfield low blowed Dokes, then headbutted him, he also landed the same 'combo' against Tyson as well

I think it's all over the sport. We tend to notice the big name fighters because we don't care much about the others.
If Pedro Morales, a lightweight who won 4 and lost 5, was dirty no one would notice and no one would care.

Watched many a Terry Norris fight when after he knocked down his opponent he would blatantly hit his opponent on the floor. Examples:

    Norris vs Suagr Ray Leonard
    Norris vs Troy Waters
    Norris vs Donald Curry
    Norris vs Joe Gatti

He was also DQ'd twice in back to back fights against Luis Santana.

None other than convicted ****** Malik Abdul Aziz. Gaining international attention for committing the most egregious foul in the history of HW boxing. On June 28th 1997 he bit a chunk of Evander Holyfield's ear off not once but twice. He was summarily disqualified from the match and had to be restrained by police officers before he could make a third attempt on Holyfield. He was also known for his liberal use of joint locks, elbows strikes and low blows. Opponents had to always be keenly aware off Aziz's proclivity to punch off of referee breaks and after the bell. The best example being when Aziz punched Orlin Norris approximately 3-4 seconds after the bell from the end of round 1. The fight was inexplicably ruled a NC (Aziz clearly should have been disqualified).

Highlights of the career of Malik Abdul Aziz:

I'd like to nominate Marcos villasana for his expert use of his head and his liberal use of the low blow
