WBO Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada, the Puerto Rican-based sanctioning organization made a controversial ruling concerning their current Junior Welterweight title holder, Chris Algieri.

Because the Huntington, New York, resident is slated to face Manny Pacquiao on November 22, at a catch weight of 144 pounds and compete for the Pacman's welterweight strap, the WBO is forcing Algieri to relinquish the title he won just four months prior.

Props to Pelullo if he somehow gets them to determine that the disgusting Provodnikov-Castillo fight he's promoting is for the vacant belt.

True, by this logic, Huck should have been stripped by the WBO for fighting Povetkin

The WBO are simply pissed because they dont earn a penny from a really big purse.

All of these sanctioning bodies are just money crazed hypocrites.

Provodnikov beat the crap out of Algieri, Algieri lost, he never earned a title. Void Mayweather has the 154 lb. title, but does not have to defend it. It's all about the money..............

That's exactly what it is. These sanctioning groups are just parasites. Boxing fans should just ignore them, and their bogus titles.

ummmm...isnt he fighting for the WBO ww title?

  10. This doesn’t make any sense? Why now? The fight with Provo was in June and the upcoming fight with Manny was announced very shortly thereafter. Why now did they arbitrarily decide to strip him of his belt? Shouldn’t he have been given some notice that this would happen?

I'm sure Aligieri was given notice. The WBO implied they wanted some cash to get a little more juice off the Pac fight, and Chris decided not to pay them. So, they stripped him.

That's not a joke. Things really get that shady when it comes to sanctioning bodies and how they handle their "business".

Well, there goes his option of automatically having a title fight after he almost certainly loses to Pacquiao... I would imagine, or hope, that the WBO made him #1 mandatory at 140 for his WBO.

So, who does the WBO have their sights on to battle for the vacant belt? Mikey Garcia? Terrance Crawford? Provodnikov/Castillo??? Alvarado vs. TBA? Whoever they (HBO/TR) plan on Pac facing next with the move to 140 is what this is all about, my guess...

I can't believe you think Algeri is sure to lose. He is younger stronger and undefeated:hi:

Yet he is not young, strong, or stronger, and being undefeated for him is as relevant as how everyone's personal scorecard for the Provodnikov fight was.
