IBF WBO WBA WBC are all reconized sanctioning bodies who all reconize themselves.if you win a world title and it's the highest trinket in that division(as to say you can't get any higher)u can tell your grand kids you were a "champ"..another example is if u own one of these trinkets and also hold the ibo title while bieng the lineal champ and then drop one of these titles and defend your crown with a ibo belt and then the contender wins it..well u can call yourself the champ.all a bit confusing but not to the die hard fans.so yes u don't need to unify to call yourself the champ..

 

I also might add that mundine has never won a world title from the WBA WBC IBF or the WBO...

 

In your opinion that is , not mine , Darchinyan = champ , Calzaghe = champ , Haye = champ etc unified champions best in the World not best of a sanctioning body .

Sober as a judge mate unless you unify them all how can you call yourself the champion of the world ? If you win one of the top four sanctioning bodies highest title in any specific given weight there still remains another three version outstanding , if a fighter were to fight another of the orgs champion for argument sake for the WBO & WBC that makes him holder of half the world championship at that weight but cannot claim to be outright champion of the world until the other two orgs belts are in his possession , that's the trouble with the sport today ( too many trinkets and too many also rans calling themselves world champions , also too many fan boys like yourself not being able to comprehend what's going on and understand the difference between a trinket holder and an undisputed champion )
