Wow, you actually did. Didn't mean it as criticism, just mad at those members trying to open up a thread when mayweather farts.

    My apologies :thumbsup:thumbsup

Sometimes it takes me a while between sweeps (I do have a life!), but all the Mayweather/Pacquiao threads eventually do get merged into that one. :good

It can't be any more of a waste than the last few TOMATO CANs he's knocked over...

Last few? He fought Povetkin the fight before last.

...and while Briggs wouldn't be all that much bigger a joke than Leapai, at least with Leapai he did actually defeat Boytsov in an eliminator. Briggs has done nothing of the sort, or even close.

you could argue Briggs has never had a decent win ever, period.

I don't care if Wlad gives him a shot or not, nor do I mind Shannon's antics. It's entertaining either way, plus I don't mind the senior circuit heavyweight fights. I'm a man who appreciates an ever changing BoxRec. If Shannon wants to keep fighting and calling out Wlad I'm all for it.

In addition: It's somewhat admirable to actually reach out to your fans, which Shannon does everyday in some way. Boxers are usually calculated politicians when it comes to fan interaction outside the ring. Briggs is more than happy to mix it up with friends (and foes). Call it what you will, but Briggs is okay in my book. His instagram is a good laugh for any boxing fan.

Having said all that. There is no way Briggs beats this version of W. Klitschko. He certainly would have had a strong punchers chance (but probably still would have lost) against the pre 06 version, but Klitschko's game is much too refined and careful to be clipped early by The Cannon. Shannon is too slow and Wlad is too good. Beatdown unanimous decision or mercy late-round stoppage for Wlad.

    Liakhovich was a good win.

Seconds away from being a loss. Biggest choke job in the history of heavyweight boxing. It wasn't even a proper come-from-behind KO, really. It was a come-from-behind stand-there-firing-punches-while-Liakhovich's-gas-tank-reaches-zero. Nothing Briggs did at the end was special. He was just there.

His resume is surprisingly thin for someone that has remained relevant (somewhat) for so long, but there are a few notable wins and some "good" losses sprinkled in there.

    Foreman (robbery)
Sergei (solid win against the best version of Sergei)
Mercer (Pretty washed up, but not as much as some assume... give him a BoxRec)

Drew with Botha (haven't seen the fight #BoxrecWarrior)

Dominated by Lennox (rocked the **** out of him in the 1st though)

Then a few inexcusable losses against mid-level guys.

Pretty bad for a guy with such a household name, but not really that bad overall. Plus he claimed some undefeated scalps, which always look nice on a record.

    Granted.

However, Povetkin notwithstanding, Wlad's recent choice of opponent has put the HW championship event on the level of side-show status. At least with Briggs we would have the benefit of his clowning, **** talking and Klitschko agitating to enjoy leading up to the fight.

No argument from me but, either by inches or a mile, a win is a win.

No doubt - I'm just saying except for the result on paper you can't point to Briggs vs. Liakhovich to big up Shannon. Horrible performance, won by luck and the ability to merely stand there getting his face boxed off until Sergei's own shitty conditioning undid him.

    I disagree with this.

I saw the Foreman Briggs fight the night it originally aired and I didn't think it was a robbery. Foreman had looked like an ole man in his last couple of fights and this contest was no exception. People tend to forget that, in his youth, Briggs was a very skilled heavyweight.

He was quicker on the draw and moved a little better, yeah. I don't know that he was immensely skilled in his prime (see Wilson, Lewis, Botha, Fields). He always got by on power more than anything else, though his fundamentals weren't the worst ever seen in a heavyweight KO artist that clobbered his way into contention.

    How did you score it?

I think you're being a bit unfair here. Yes, Briggs looked like **** in this fight but, IMO, it was due to his asthma and lack of conditioning. In terms of boxing skill, Briggs easily proved to be equal [or even superior] to Liakhovich in spots during the fight, IMO...
