If B-Hop wins this weekend, at what point would you consider it a "schooling"

Most of the guys here that back B-Hop to win, use the word "schooling" in their posts.
Question is, when do you guys actually consider it a schooling? In the traditional sense of the word it would be if Bernard clearly outboxes, frustrates Kovalev and wins by a landslide on points, but that's not a very likely scenario in this case of course. Most boxingwriters, "experts", trainers etc that believe Hopkins to pull it off expect a messy affair with him using every trick in the book and pull out an awkward, close and possibly controversial decision/dq/injury type of win.

So assuming he does win, at what point would you consider it a schooling?
Only when he clearly outboxes the younger and much stronger foe, maybe even when B-Hop pulls one of his tricks and forces a controversial DQ, or whatever other option inbetween or beyond?

A schooling is where Hopkins totally dominates Kovalev and Kovalev has no answer for anything and Hopkins wins a landslide points victory.

a schooling is just that.. he is allowed to have some difficulty of course but at the very least must expose a big weakness of kovalevs and continue to take advantage of it for 12 rounds making him look silly

And on that note, wouldn't Hopkins simply finding a way to win constitute a schooling on some level in any case?

Only if Hopkins has it easy and makes it look easy.

If Hopkins wasnt 50, id comfortably pick him.

Not really, that would mean every guy who's ever won a fight by decision schooled the other guy.

It's a term that is ridiculously over used on boxing forums anyway... fighters never just win or beat an opponent anymore, they always school, dominate, destroy, humiliate or embarrass them.

It's like electronic communication has rendered plain speaking obsolete and everyone feels the need to sound like the most rabidly hyperbolic of boxing commentators during a megafight as if it'll somehow make what they're saying more significant.

(Sorry it's one of my pet hates).

Anyways - IMO a schooling would indicate that one fighter beat another not just convincingly, but making it look easy as well - in fact to an extent I'd have to see the loser looking entirely outclassed to the point of barely being able to lay a glove on his opponent before I'd consider using the term.

If Hopkins wins by whatever means it'll certainly constitute an education of sorts for Kovalev (and as Sergei points out himself win or lose he'll undoubtedly gain valuable experience from the fight) but I doubt that's how the term will be used in the wake of the fight.

Despite the fact that this fight has been almost universally praised in concept and both fighters have received props for stepping up to the plate you can guarantee that come Sunday morning on ESB either Hopkins will have been destroyed or Kovalev humiliated or exposed no matter how competitive the fight actually turns out to be.

Me? I'm just glad the fight's happening. Rooting for Kovalev, but see it as being no better than 60/40 at best in his favour and can easily see the Hopkins SD/UD - which I would also appreciate as a amazing achievement by the old guy.

I'd say a schooling is when a fighter dominates, win by shut out or only loses a round or 2 when they decided to take a round off.

Hopkins simply winning in itself is not a schooling.

If Kovalev just seems completely lost, frustrated and befuddled, like Canelo looked during his match with Lara.

Hopkins needs to use every veteran tool in the box. If ue pulls this it it may very well be ugly as many of his fights have been, but it will be because he will have shown thing Kovalev has never seen before and has no answers to. That to me is a schooling. At nearly 2 decades older Hopkins shouldnt even be able to be a top fighter anymore. He is because of his guile.

Yeah, I agree with Koba. Schooling is overused here as is "bum".
