Maravilla Martinez will surely be one of 10 top best argentinian fighters ever, once he retires, did he already?
Monzon Perez Loche Bonavena Galindez I like Jorge Ahumada but dont think he makes the top 10 Hugo Corro ?
My compatriots. 1- Pascualito Perez 2- Carlos Monzón 3- Nicolino Locche 4- Omar Narváez 5- Sergio Martínez 6- Santos Laciar 7- Horacio Acavallo 8- Victor Galindez 9- Eduardo Lausse 10- Luis Angel Firpo
1. Gregorio Manuel Peralta 2. Jorge Fernando Castro 3. Santos Benigno Laciar 4. Carlos Monzon 5. Oscar Bonavena 6. Victor Emilio Galindez 7. Ramon Avenamar Peralta 8. Carlos Gabriel Salazar 9. Marcelo Fabian Dominguez 10. Lucas Martin Mathyse Maidana and Mathyse are very close to each other. Mathyse lost (?) to Judah, but Maidana lost to Khan. Maidana stopped Mathyse in the amateurs when Mathyse was older and that was an advantage. Mathyse stopped Corley, whereas both Maidana and Provodnikov failed at it. It seems Maidana is at least at #11, and may make it higher in the future. Julio Cesar Vasquez close too, but a KO loss to Boudoani and a loss to an older and smaller Whitaker keep him out too. I think Martinez will forever remain outside, but if he has another good win he may maintain a top 15 place for about 10-20 years until more better fighters retire. Hector Luis Patri also almost top 10. Carlos Manuel Baldomir a top 15 but not top 10. Roldan a top 20, but probably not top 15.
Common, give Maravilla some love! He is not in the discussion for the number 1 spot, but he has a decent case to be included among the top 10 argentinian fighters. Sure, Maravilla has his fair share of journeymen and tomato cans in his resume (just like Tyson, Louis, PBF, etc., etc., etc.,), and in his last few bouts he didn't exactly look great, which is logical because we are talking about somebody who is almost 40. However, we are talking about a guy who managed to be lineal champion for more than 4 years. A guy who won several "boxer of the year" awards. A guy who defeated some decent boxers like Williams, Pavlik and Dzinziruk. All that must count for something :deal
Julio Cesar Vasquez is arguably top 4 and doesn't seem to make anyone's list. He won the light middle title twice, had 10 defenses and beat Castillejo, Aaron Davis, Carl Daniels and Winky Wright! Not many of his countryman have a similar record of success.
Yeah maybe you're right, I might have been a bit harsh on the guy. He hasn't looked that good in his last few fights or so probably due to a combination of age and injury but on the whole he has been the most dominant middleweight of recent years.
