When Vitali was active several years back, the top two heavyweights were excused from fighting the next best guy. Which was kind of understandable since Wlad and Vitali are brothers. As a result, however, the whole field of HW contenders was split in half between the two brothers.

If that doesn't deserve a HUGE asterisk (*), then I don't know what does.

Excuse the pun, but Oh Brother! It was an honor as a boxing fan to have witnessed such a historical achievement. Two brothers having the talent and drive to have won all of the boxing heavyweight belts between them. It will never happen again.

There was some overlap between the bro's opponents. Besides, it's not the first time we've had two dominant heavyweight boxers who split the division between themselves and refused to fight. First it was Holyfield and Tyson, then Bowe and Lewis. Before that, you could make a case that Holmes ducked half his division and Foreman ducked him.

Both had chances to get some decent names on their resumes in the late 90s & early 2000s.

Vitali stepped up twice and lost both.. Wlad got taken out by the golfer.

Bowe and Lewis yes, but when did Tyson and Holyfield refused to fight each other?

1989-1996, although for three of those prime years Tyson was in prison.

Tyson was signed to fight Holyfield before he went prison. Had it not been for those 3 years Tyson spent in prison he would have Holyfield much earlier.

I don't understand you Foreman and Holmes comparisons. First of all they we not the two best heavyweights at the time. Though Foreman ducked Holmes, Holmes was a part time boxer.

Actually they didnt refuse to fight each other thats incorrect.

Around the time when Tyson Ko'ed Spinks in '88, Holyfield moved up to heavyweight. Bill Cayton had the fight scheduled for '89. But obviously that didnt happen when King took over.

King had the fight scheduled once Tyson beat his mandatory Buster Douglas. We all know what happened in Tokyo.

Douglas had the option to offer Tyson a rematch of fight Holyfield, he fought Holyfield instead.

Tyson was left out in the cold. Holyfield then had the opportunity to face Tyson for the titles but decided to make a bit of money first by fighting Foreman. In the meantime Tyson fought Ruddock.

Once their respective fights were over, they were signed to fight sometime in late '91. The press conference was done and is available on youtube. But Tyson then got arrested.

They didn't avoid each other, fate just prevent them from getting it on earlier.

Tyson/Holyfield never shared an era as top guys.

    HWs who did without fighting:

    Johnson
    Langford/McVey/Jennette

    Dempsey
    Willis/Lanford

    Holmes
    Dokes

    Bowe
    Lewis

    Foreman
    Tyson/Holyfield/Lewis

    Lewis
    Byrd/Ruiz

    Rubbish.

The number of regular top 5 RING contenders and belt holders they fought between 2008-2013 is lopsided in Wlad's favor.

Wlad fought Peter, Haye, Chageav, Chambers, and Povetkin.

Vitali fought Peter and Adamek..that's it.

Ultimately, Wlad missed one top guy that his brother fought. How the hell is that a divide and conquer strategy?

NOPE they both fought in the weakest era in heavyweight history post lennox:deal.it also means we don't know who was truly the best of the hw division because they never fought due to being brothers.

Post Lewis? That means after Lewis, so this is the weakest era after Lewis...there has only been one era therefore it would also be correct if I were to say they fought in the best hw division 'post Lewis' so your post is pointless...
