overrated by casual fans who seem to think he was unbeatable. all this bull**** about how he was soooo good when he was young/in his prime. He won the world title in 1987 and lost in 1990 aged 23 to the absolute bum joke of a fighter James douglas :rofl:rofl:rofl how embarassing a lot of the general public say Tyson is the greatest ever, it really cracks me up whe I hear this. He was a beast but he was, and is, embarrassingly overrated. Massive, massive hypejob. And he is the most overrated boxer to ever live. yes more overrated than anybody somebody on another thread nailed Tyson's career perfectly Heres tysons career in a nutshell he beat some bums won the title from a bum beat some bums beat a 40 year old larry holmes coming off 2 losses and a 2 year layoff beat a lhw named michael spinks lost to the bum douglas beat some bums went to prison came out beat some bums lost to evander twice beat some bums lost to lennox beat a bum lost to two bums retired How the hell is he a top 10 ATG heavyweight great according to some clueless idiots? Plenty of casual actually think hes the greatest boxer of all time . Nobody with half a brain would even consider putting him in the top 10 hw list all time. Tyson had a poor chin. Knocked out by cans his whole career. Compare this guys chin to Marciano or Vitali Klitschko and then tell me he didn't have a glass jaw. Tyson never got off the canvas in a fight to win a fight. He had a lack of heart Very one dimensional. He couldn't adapt to save his life. the guy was exciting a to watch when he was young.. but he did hold a lot.. which not many people mention.... and what you won't see when you watch highlight reel KO's from him. He looked impressive beating nobodies or washed up fighters but does that mean that prime for prime he'd beat anyone according to some people lol Deontay Wilder beats bums or washed up fighters impressively is he a all time great too? The best fighters of his american domestic only era when the soviet union countries couldn't turn pro... Holyfield and Lewis... destroyed him and showed him for what he was. & he got beat up by bums Douglas, Mcbride, Williams... it's embarassing stuff, People clearly overrate him because of his fame/persona. And the fact he was American helps. The majority of his record was built around beating nobodies. The main thing that makes him overrated was the aura about him that carried him, he was more of an event in that very short prime he had. He won 13 world title fights in a weak era. Wladimir Klistchko has won 25 world title fights and counting for example. Is Tyson the most famous boxer ever - Yes Is Tyson one of the most exciting to watch heavyweights Ever- Yes Is he an a top 80 ATG great boxer - Absolutely No Way IS he a top 15 ATG Heavyweight - Absolutely No Way IS HE THE MOST HYPED OVERRATED BOXER OF ALL TIME - 100% Correct :deal :good
This is the same guy who sent me a personal message with negative comments about black people. Just to let everyone know.
This is the third thread I've seen on this topic today. Is mike overrated? Yes but it's not that big a deal. There are lots of people who are objective on his career.
There isn't a single HW in history with a better skill-set, movement or power than Mike, IMO (well, Foreman on power, maybe). Mike in his prime was a monster. I'd back him against any HW.
First of all, Buster was a quality fighter (who fought out of his skin that night) - watch the Tucker fight. Top-notch boxing. Tyson stopped training post-'88. He blew away lb4lb-listed Pinklon Thomas, out-jabbed undefeated Tucker to unify and punched undefeated Olympic champion Biggs out of the ring. He then knocked Holmes and Spinks clean out. Nowhere near his best, he beat Ruddock twice. Post-prison, he was WBC-WBA champion and gave Evander one of his toughest fights, and Lennox took eight rounds to put away his near-dead body! The guy is underrated. He was in a league of his own in the mid-80s, he literally just sweeped a packed division away when he was still a kid. It'll never be done again, and never had.
If you go on achievement then youre half right. He didnt come anywere near to fulfilling his potential. He could have been one of the greatest skill speed to burn raw power. But he was a case of too much too soon he thought hed made it when he won the world title when really it was just begining. as for a weak chin thats ridiculous! Poor stamina maybe but he was never stopped by one or 2 big shots he was only stopped after being beaten up over a period of rounds and these are against 20st blokes. Not once was he ko via a lewis-mccall/rahman style punch. Tyson had a great chin. my opinion is he definatly wasnt a hype job because on his day he could have more than lived with any heavyweight in any era. But he was the biggest waste of talent even with what he achieved thats nothing to what he could have
Funny how people claim Tyson never got off the floor to win a fight he was losing. Neither did Ali, nor Lennox, nor Holmes, nor Evander and neither did Foreman.
