The nicest people always have to go. I love what he brought to the boxing community. True love for our sport. A real man.

Great guy and a true boxing guru. His past memories of growing up in Brooklyn were fascinating.Whenever I cross the bridge and head over to BK to catch a fight at Barclays or hit one of my favourite Italian restaurants I think of John.Still do to this day.I miss him.

I only caught the tail end of his career as a poster on ESB when he was posting less frequently, but regarded him as one of the best posters on the site - his stories from the NYC gyms of the 60s and 70s were both evocative and touching and I always enjoyed sharing a few words with him, just as he enjoyed sharing his wisdom and experience with the rest of us.

    Sadly missed. RIP Joe.

Classiest poster on a site that sometimes lacks that quality.

RIP JG. Your presence is missed around here.

He had his own non-stick, teflon shell when it came to drama and B.S. here. It just never stuck to him and he never got drawn into any of it. He was always riding above that and just talking shop and telling great stories from his enormous wealth of experience without being pedantic about it. As a result, he was universally respected. Here and I'm sure in just about every other arena of life. He really was one of a kind. This place misses him for sure.

Amazing poster and he seemed like an incredibly genuine and nice guy who exuded class by the bucketload. I never actually spoke to him but I loved reading his posts and listening to his wonderful stories. Shame he's no longer with us but he won't be forgotten. RIP.

    Was that really a year?

His name is on the front cover of my birthday present, Gods of War, with a blurb of endorsement. That rocked me a little upon opening it.
