At 154 and 160. Who do you got?

the unbeaten mugabi who entered the ring with hagler would have beaten hearns or any other middleweight around that night and held the title for a long time, hagler pretty much destroyed mugabi`s career that night.
when mugabi went back to 154, it was a bad mistake cos he was way too big for that weight.
micky duff was a very shrewd guy, so for him to put mugabi in against hagler, he must have believed that he was a natural middleweight and something special.
if not for that night, i think that mugabi`s career would have been very, very different.

I always thought Hearns height, reach, but mainly speed would be the main factors in Hearns being able to hurt Mugabi first at that time...I will say though that the Beast would have been a very tough fight for Hearns. Hearns' boxing ability could also be viewed as a trump...Hearns KO4

Mugabi I believe, still had not reached his prime at the time he fought Hagler. Unfortunately Mugabi never really got to have a prime as Hagler pounded it out of him in the ring, and hurt him permanently. While Mugabi went onto win a title, he was never the same fighter. I see Hearns winning by KO.

If Hearns can get to him quick, it could be over. But if not, and if Mugabi can get to Tommy, that will also likely be it, in fact, I think Mugabi takes a better punch, but Hearns is bigger and much faster and a better boxer.
I wouldn't compare their performances against Hagler, two different guys, two different fighting styles, there are very few who could go at Hearns like Marvin did and not get blasted, I would think Mugabi is not one of them.
While he is a much better boxer than Roldan, I can see him getting a similar result as to what Roldan had against Hearns, a bit of a scare, and eventually hammered into the canvas.
I also may be totally wrong....

Mugabi was made to order for Hearns. Tommy would have wrecked him just like a terry Norris did.

Mugabi was far from dedicated outside the ring(some of George Francis and Duff's stories about his training habits were hilarious), which no doubt contributed a good bit to his quick decline along with the hagler beating.

his balance and punch resistance were gone by the time he fought Norris, who would have been crushed by the fighter that soaked up so much punishment before folding against Hagler.

This is the kind of fight where Hearns is rightful favourite and could well destroy Mugabi early, yet was vulnerable enough that you might get a great shootout from it, or even a shocking Barkley like turnaround, especially if they had fought after Hagler Hearns(and instead of Hagler vs Mugabi).

A pre- Hagler version of Tommy and i feel a bit more confident putting money on him.

Every guy with good power at middleweight or above knocks Hearns out. The chin just wasn't up to it. It wasn't just Leonard or Hagler. He was outboxing Barkley both times when he got sparked. He barely survived against Kinchen. Mugabi would put him on ***** street.

    Hearns would have destroyed Mugabi.

Hearns vs Jackson is a more interesting matchup than this.

Hearns went the distance with Barkley in the second fight. Roldan didn't knock Hearns out.

Hearns destroys him, imo. Won't last long.

I actually felt that perhaps Mugabi would stand a better chance against Hearns than Jackson, since he had longer reach and a better chin. On the other hand Jackson was a sharper puncher, I'd say.

I'm a bit surprised as to how many predicts Hearns by early destruction, since he struggled with Roldan, Barkley and Kinchen whom I'd consider all to be inferior fighters. He couldn't blow out an old Leonard either and De Witt took him the distance. That Mugabi would fare worse than all these guys I find quite unlikely.

Schüler is the only quality MW one can say that Hearns destroyed, isn't it?

I'm a big admirer of the Kampala City Bombers, but if we're dissecting Hearns like this why not do the same for Mugabi?

A padded record, a great effort against a past-prime Hagler, and a car crash career afterwards.

Best wins? The Animal (good journeyman) and a well past it Eddie Gazo.

What quality junior middleweights did Mugabi stop I ask you?

What quality middleweights did he stop?

Could pretty much see this one going either way at middleweight but no matter what I think it ends in the early rounds. I see Hearns getting the better of the boxing match either way but I think Mugabi has a very fair chance of catching Hearns and taking him out. Hearns also has a good chance as both guys have been stopped in the early rounds. Pick em fight just depends on who is able to get the knockout first.
