I think it's a kinda knee jerk response. Received wisdom on ESB is that if a fighter's got a high KO percentage it means he's a crude slugger without skills.

Nah. Kovalev does what he does very well... thing is so does Hopkins. That's part of what makes this fight so intriguing.

thats good question, first i thought about speed and athleticism, but pascal is an explosive fighter aswelll, so i actually dont think thats the reason. Stevenson and pascal also gasses, so i think hopkins wouldve favoured a fight with stevenson.

Stevenson is also a lefty, so hopkins straight right would land a lot and stevensons chin is a bit shaky.

The reason why this fight happened, is imo that kovalev - i have no proof - took a lower fee, as he is hungry for exposure and recognition. Kovalev is willing, stepped up and now we have a fight. Both of these guys - kovalev and especially stevenson as he has experience in this area - should´ve pimped themselves for a fight with hopkins. Hopkins is the name fighter, he is breaking records and holds the key to fame/money/recognition etc. Hopkins calls the shots, lets not kid ourselves, so this comes down to "who wanted it more" and kovalev did.

Reallt looking forward to this fight!

LOL. You are on the wrong boxing site for serious analysis. Alll ESB knows is that BHOP is black and Kov is white.

If you want serious analysis then visit an American boxing site. :yep

Hops will try to stay in the pocket a fair bit I think thats what he's planning.

I'm just watching Bhop vs Murat and I forgot how many shots Hopkins took in that fight. If Kovalev has the same success AS Murat (Kov is the superior fighter) then Hopkins is out of there, gone.

There are no flaws that Kovalev has that Stevenson doesn't.

Exactly, there was nothing revealed in Kovalev vs. Caparello that wasn't revealed in Stevenson vs. Fonfara (or long before that, namely Stevenson vs. Boone I)

For how much people talk about how bad Kovalev's defense is, Stevenson's defense was much worse in the Fonfara fight. If Fonfara were a harder puncher, Stevenson would have gotten stopped.

And at least Kovalev can KO you with either hand. Stevenson only has a big left hand.
