To those that missed my posts from a year ago, this is just an update on what I personally believe Stevenson and his team are/were thinking regarding Kovalev.

Surely there are many simple minded clowns(the same ones that cheered on Concreto in 2006+ for loading up, calling out smaller opponents and struggling or losing) that still believe Stevenson is "Scared" of Kovalev, which is why he ditched him and took a different path. Stevenson isn't scared of anyone in the sport, what he's scared of is being underpaid for a potentially dangerous fight and that's something every fighter is scared of when considering the business aspect of the sport. Remember, these fighters do this for a living. Surely the same idiots that scream "scared" won't be serving KFC buckets for free either. Back when Stevenson was ignoring Kovalev, Kovalev had no big win on his resume worth considering for Stevenson to fight him. Stevenson made it far by taking risks to become a big name in the sport worth mentioning and considering. Kovalev, on the other hand, has no major victory at all. Kovalev' first big fight to date is starting in only a matter of hours and guess what?, Stevenson bought tickets and will be there live in attendance to see how Kovalev performs and if he's capable of winning or impressing. Why would Stevenson do that?, obviously because he plans(and will) fight the winner of this fight. This is him giving a clear indication that he has the winner in plan and I guarantee that he's fighting the winner sometime next year. Stevenson isn't getting any younger and there's no one that will offer a bigger or better payday for him out there.

Moral of the story?, fighters tend to automatically "duck" someone once they score a major win and are generally popular and recognized. Why?, because fans in general tend to sympathize with those below the "bigger name" when it comes to call-outs in the sport. Even Stevenson had his share of "He's being ducked!" chants before he scored his big win over Dawson, people simply forgot that. Fighters aren't scared of anyone, otherwise they won't be in this profession or sport. You can't be a fearful person if you're ready to go in there and exchange blows while a packed crowd cheers on. What Stevenson is scared of was being underpaid in a potentially dangerous fight against an opponent with zero big wins. Now that Kovalev could possibly score his biggest win, he's definitely finally worth considering. The business aspect of the sport isn't as complicated as people think, it just requires some thinking and a sober state of mind.

Stevenson got exposed by Fonfara, he loses to the winner of Kovalev-Hopkins.

If he doesn't get Sukhotsky out of there in the first two rounds, it will look really bad for him.
