I have a bad feeling that "the fix is in" regarding tonight fight.

Unfortunately Kovalev will never be a huge star like Mayweather or Pac.
Even if he goes on to unify the division, he just doesn't have the star power to crossover to the average sport fan. Sure he could be huge with the hardcore fans but that doesn't translate into huge crossover money. I don't see any 8 figure paydays in his future.

What I'm getting at is don't be surprise if he goes in the tank and mails this fight in for some "under the counter extra Golden Boy money".

I hope this fight is on the level, but I have a BAD feeling about this one.:-(

Also don't be surprise if the Ref is on the take too. The Ref might let Hopkins hold a little too much, headbutt, and punch low.

I just have a baaadd feeling about it.

What does the forum think? Will this be a fair and on the level fight?

I don't believe in conspiracy theories, but my gut feels the same. Watching Kovalev with pregnant wife has me thinking he might be over this lifestyle, especially since they know how death inside the ring is a real possibility. Plus I can't imagine Bhop taking this fight if it was legit.

interesting. because he isnt getting paid a huge amount for this fight. wouldnt he want to get a huge payday before he does that sort of thing.maybe a stevenson or ward showdown.

As far as a "fix" I would seriously doubt it... But do I think this could have a sh*tty ending to it via shenanigans? Hell ya.

And Hopkins is gonna become a megastar all of a sudden? Kovalev has way more upside.

If he were to even think about cashing in, it would be against Adonis. This fight is important and has the attention of the boxing world, but it's nowhere near the money maker that a fight in Canada would have for him against the hometown fighter.

That said, I don't see Kovalev doing something shady like that. I just don't.

I don't believe in "fixed" fights and I can't believe that Kovalev would throw a fight to Hopkins. Maybe some kind of terrible decision could happen, wouldn't be the first time.

I agree, shady stuff like this has often happened in boxing.

Golden Boy is the event's promoter, Hopkins is part owner of GBP. The referee and three judges are all from the same area as B-Hop.

I'm certain Kovalev won't take a dive, but I doubt if Sergey can get a fair shake. But I'm hoping he'll win anyway. We'll see what happens.

    Yes, that's more likely.

Hopkins getting Kovalev with a head butt and the ref calling it a TKO, or Hopkins pretending to be injured and the ref DQing Sergey.

I've been worried about this too, particularly regarding the referee and what he's going to allow B-Hop to get away with all night. I'm especially concerned about Kovalev getting cut too and the effect they might on the fight. He's susceptible to getting cut from head clashes (he was cut from them against both Cleverly and obviously Agnew too) and B-Hop's pet punch is the top of his head.

if kovalev was a golden boy fighter, i might agree. i think hes a mans man though, i dont think he would screw over the duvas like that. im sure there will be favoritism for b-hop from the officials, just because of the power b-hop has through golden boy.
