i thought there were some similarities between Dempsey/Willard and Tyson/Berbick. 2 small guys winning their titles in amazing fashion by destroying a much bigger champ who had wins over past greats (Johnson/Ali)
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x356hn_razor-ruddock-vs-michael-dokes-ko_sport I dont think Firpo or Willard ever did anything like that?
Similarities for sure, but we have to look at how they did against a genuine super heavyweight, who was genuinely world class at the time. Dempsey has nothing left to prove in terms of beating world class super heavyweights.
Well if thats the case, neither has Tyson. The only superheavyweights Tyson lost to were Douglas and Lewis, one was an ATG and the other fought like one for one night.
Honestly as an amateur boxer I'd have seriously fancied my chances against Jack Dempsey, because he just isn't very good. Tyson would have blown me out in under a minute. The only arrogant comment there is how long I would have lasted against Tyson. No he didn't throw uppercuts, highlight a fight for me where he threw 30 uppercuts, 20 if it's under 5 rounds. And it's easy to infight with the unskilled bodybuilders and middleweight weaklings Dempsey fought anyway. Tyson was a great infighter against Bruno who was better than anyone Dempsey fought by a long way. And Dempsey didn't fight any world class fighters ever Tyson did. Oh no don't get me wrong, he threw countless winged punches any decent boxer would slip
Dempsey was 190 pounder.LHW by modern standards.or extremely small CW.. Tyson in his prime and past his prime would have demolished Dempsey. Why we still put these past HW'S against modern HW'S in these fantasy matchups.when in reality they are in totally different weighclasses. It's like asking how would Sergei Kovalev vs George Foreman fight would go. Hell,i would pick Usyk to beat Dempsey with ease
I'll say this. If Tyson was allowed to rush over and hit a guy as soon as he was " deemed " to be off the canvas ( in other words both of his knees and his hands were above ground ) I'd say he annihilates Dempsey inside a round. And believe me I do NOT have any time for Tyson at all. In fact given a free shot at someone half way up there is a chance the ****** could ACTUALLY kill him.
