Why not 1 or 2 uppercuts ? Why not 5 or 6 ? You say he didn't throw any, so what's the point in asking for 20 in 5 rounds ? What's Tyson's average for uppercuts per round ?
It is pure insanity to consider Dempsey beating Tyson. Good God. I understand you all get to half mast off of black and white fight footage, but Tyson would take his head off.
It is females in general and teenaged girls in particular he disrespects, NOT ex fighters. Given the choice of fighting 5 Dempseys, or the 5 guys who stopped him over again, my money would be on him taking the Dempseys.
I disagree. He respected all fighters, sure, but he didn't hold them all in outright reverence. He was scared of Jack. He would probably rather face Liston, Ali, Marciano, and both Klitschkos than get in the ring with Dempsey once.
Tyson held Dempsey in enormous regard, it's true. Personally I think Dempsey is excellent enough to set Tyson enormous problems - but the reverse is also true. Then there's the fact that Tyson is a good twenty plus pounds bigger. I'd be confident in picking Tyson, but I don't think writing off Jack in the way some are is sensible.
I didn't mention Liston, Ali, Marciano, or the K2 brothers. I said given the choice of rematching Douglas, Holy, Lewis, even Williams ( ok not McBride ) I believe he would rather fight Dempsey 4 times. I totally refuse to believe he was " scared " of anyone. He just lost the plot when plan A didn't work. There would be no need for a plan B with someone as crude as Dempsey.
Of course, all you Dempsey naysayers such as PP and other contrarians who have Dempsey on a par with Butterbean KNOW BETTER than the vast amount of boxing experts and fighters who regarded Dempsey in his prime on a par with Joe Louis at least...Why the heck do you even read boxing history if you in your ivory towers can besmirch such a great fighter as Dempsey ? You have a right to your opinion, but not to degrade as tough a fighter who ever lived and a helluva gentleman to boot...And PP you are so bold to say you would have a chance to beat Jack Dempsey, 30 years after he died....And so darn wrong, unless you have a death wish...
