This post sums it up. Bhops was great, but I don't think he was as unbeatable as some think. Bhops reflexes and timing weren't as they were in the Trinidad fights and his losses to Taylor and Calzaghe were razor thin, disputed losses. By the time the Dawson fight came around, Bhops wasn't his best, but he did struggle mightily with a good jab. Kov did his homework and used Dawson's blueprint of sticking with the jab and Taylor's/Calzaghe's pressuring, which came natural to Kov, in putting the pieces of the puzzle together. Hopkins wasn't at his best, but still very good, very tough to beat. Credit must be given to Kov for never getting lured into Hopkins mind games and even beat Hopkins at his own game. Kov left no doubts.
Exellent summation! Hopkins is no doubt a HOF'er and one of the greats of the sport, but I think like you probably do, he's well overrated by many. Hopkins best asset is exposing fighters who boxistically are well below average, but I think he's not the cream of the crop of the very best from 160 to 175 lbs.
