Do the words 'schooled' and 'dominated' mean the same in boxing

Why I'm asking that - because there were many posts that Kovalev schooled Hopkins as he won 12-0. When I asked if Peter schooled Toney in 2nd fight (he won 119-108 ), the answer was 'yes'.

So Kovalev schooled B-Hop, Peter schooled Toney in the rematch, Lebedev schooled Toney as well...Is the word 'schooled'='dominated' now?

Because Toney and Hopkins forgot about boxing more than these guys will ever know.

I always thought that schooling means when boxer A beats boxer B and shows his technical flaws despite being older or slower or smaller or less powerful. He takes more gifted physically fighter to school, showing his mistakes. But many people seem to use this word every time when one boxer dominates other.

    Your thoughts guys?

Yeah I've always viewed " schooling" as out classing and out thinking an opponent to the extent where there is an obvious disparity in skill and talent, while " dominating" is just utterly destroying the other fighter weather it be via youth, physical ability or stylistic advantage. Although I have seen fights where both things happened on the same night

Yes, that's excactly what I meant.
Floyd - Alvares is an example of schooling as Alvares is younger, bigger, hits harder etc. Sweet Pea schooled some guys, too. BHop schooled Pavlik (younger, bigger, harder hitter) just to name a few.

Good point. What Kovalev did I think was a combination of both. He clearly had great game plan and neutralized b-hop's strategy. However a lot of what Hopkins wanted to do went out the window when he tasted Kovalev's power.

I don't think Kovalev schooled B-hop. The latter simply no longer had the physical tools to execute any sort of workable game plan resulting him being on the defensive the whole night. Domination is what I'd prefer to call it.

    Agree with the previous posts.

"Schooling" must certainly have something to do with displaying overwhelming BOXING SKILL.
It's a type of "domination". But "dominating" is a much broader term.

in theory they are different, in reality 99% of uses of both are just exaggerations motivated by bias.

schooling is what B-Hop did to Pavlik, dominating is what Kovalev did to Hopkins

    Good post.
I do think Kovalev should get credit for that jab to the body and cutting off the ring so well.

To me...when someone takes you "to school"...he shows you how it's done...
    ...dominated is Rocky Marciano...

You can dominate without schooling them but you can't school someone without dominating them.

Schooled is a term invented by lowlife, insignificant, totally worthless fanboys.

    Dominated is an actuality.

The pound, the dollar, the euro, could in theory DOMINATE the financial market at any given time.

    None could EVER school it.

You can dominate a fighter with strength and speed. To school them you need to beat them with technique.
