That coming from a cheat freak who's taken dives to get himself out of a fight. Hillarious! The only reason Hopkins did'nt fake an injury to get himself out of the ring against Kovalev is that he knew very well that quitting again would override everything he's accomplished in the ring. I mean how many times can people eat that **** up? Hopkins taking another dive would have been worse than Duran and the "no mas" fight.
Hopkins can fight: @175 - Stevenson for the WBC title @168 - Froch or Chavez Jr @160 - GGG, Cotto or rematch Taylor
I find it almost impossible to believe he will face Taylor, GGG, or especially Cotto! If this comes to be (and I'm not convinced it will), Hopkins vs Froch is the one that makes sense. And 168 would give Hopkins a title in a 3rd weight class - should he have enough left to defeat The Cobra.
168 is the best place he can go ..He wouldn't have to cut to much weights. He just needs to give himself some time ..
I think Hopkins want GGG. I don't like it. Hopkins may drop too much weight the same way Chris Byrd dropped too much weight and come in drained. If you're not in optimal shape against GGG, he's really going to hurt you. I think a Froch match is better for both guys. They're both near the end of their careers and they're looking for one big fight.
I also think Hopkins vs Froch should be competitive one way or another. And they are the 2 most interesting interview subjects currently in boxing, IMO, so the build up should be class! (Although honestly, I am not sure that Froch would actually want this fight). :smoke
I find it impossible to believe that's in the cards. Cotto would never take that fight, and it would be bad for Bernard to go downward in weight that far.
Taylor or Abraham. I don't think he will fancy Golovkin and Froch would gain nothing from this version of B-Hop.
The Froch fight makes sense. Hopkins gets the opportunity to win a title in a third weight class and Froch has the opportunity to beat another Calzaghe leftover.
Hopkins-Froch would be the biggest fight by far, but he understands that he would have zero leverage at the negotiating table. At least with Golovkin, he could still dictate terms(venue, ref, judges, etc) and he would be the naturally bigger guy. Also, don't rule out Abraham as an opponent. Nobody really knows him in the states, but he has a world title and Bernard could definitely beat him.
Why are people pretending it is physically possible for Hopkins to make 160? The fight will be at 170, I guarantee, just like Pavlik and Winky were. People forget that Hopkins had to come back to the scales to make weight against Pascal the first time around.
