Yours is a very narrow and simplistic view of Communism.imo.
Here is some background on the people that orchestrated the witch-hunts on leftwingers ,and gays during the late 40's and early50's.
I tried to pm these to you so as not to take up the thread but it wouldnt accept it.Apologies to anyone else.
    First a few questions.
Q . Do you believe that a citizen of a country has the right to follow the politics of their choice,or do you believe it is acceptable to deny them that right?
    Q. Do you think it is morally right to deny them the opportunity to earn a living in their chosen field, and in some cases to trump up charges and smear them with lies?

Q.Do you think the HUAC were right to destroy the careers of lots of talented people because they had once been communists , may have attended a left wing rally/meeting?

Q.Where in the Constitution does it say it is illegal to be a Communist?
Q.Do you think it was acceptable for the FBI to plant women in hotel rooms to try and entrap John Steinbeck in a honey trap, simply because he wrote the truth about the Dust Bowl and its knock on effects in The Grapes Of Wrath?

I think some of the biggest traitors to the American way of life were Senator Joe McCarthy
    and his henchmen.
I think J Edgar Hoover was a cross dressing , hypocrite continually denying the very existence of the Mafia and organized crime, ferociously pillorying gays, all the while indulging in a lifelong homo***ual affair with Clyde Tolson.

Im not anti- gay I'm merely pointing out the quite common tactic of gay men in public life vehemently attacking other gays to take the spotlight off themselves.

But Anthony Summers, who exposed the secret *** life of Hoover in his 1993 book, "Official and Confidential: The Secret Life of J. Edgar Hoover," said there was no ambiguity about the FBI director's ***ual proclivities.
"What does Clint Eastwood know about it?" he asked ABCNews.com. Summers collaborated with historians and conducted 800 interviews for the book, including nieces and those who were young enough at the time to have known the man personally.

We were able to get a close view of the man as an individual and as a human being -- as close as anybody who had not been afraid of him since he died," said Summers.
One medical expert told Summers that Hoover was "strongly predominant homo***ual orientation" and another categorized him as a "bi***ual with failed hetero***uality."
Hoover often suppressed his urges, but would break out in lapses that could have destroyed him -- alleged orgies in New York City hotels and affairs with teenage boys in a limousine, according to interviews conducted by Summers.

    To be continued-----

McCarthy's chief prosecutor Roy Cohn was a piece of ****.

Roy Cohn, the lawyer who served as chief counsel to Sen. Joseph McCarthy in his anti-communist campaign of the 1950s and who successfully convicted Julius and Ethel ********* of espionage, denied he was gay, despite an attraction to men.

Cohn, who died of AIDS in 1986, was a contemporary of Hoover and according to one biography, the two attended *** parties together in New York in the 1950s.
Cohn would play a major role in assisting Senator McCarthy's crusade against Communism.[10] During the Lavender Scare, Cohn and McCarthy attempted to enhance anti-Communist fervor in the country by claiming that Communists overseas had convinced several closeted homo***uals employed by the U.S. federal government to pass on important government secrets in exchange for keeping the identity of their ***uality a secret.[10] Convinced that the employment of homo***uals was now a threat to national security, U.S. President Dwight Eisenhower signed an executive order on April 29, 1953, that banned homo***uals from obtaining jobs .

Cohn invited his friend G. David Schine, an anti-communist propagandist, to join McCarthy's staff as a consultant. When Schine was drafted into the army in 1953, Cohn made repeated and extensive efforts to procure special treatment for Schine. He contacted military officials from the Secretary of the Army down to Schine's company commander, and demanded that Schine be given light duties, extra leave, and exemption from overseas assignment. At one point, Cohn is reported to have threatened to "wreck the Army" if his demands were not met.[11][12] This conflict, along with McCarthy's accusations of Communists in the defense department, led to the Army–McCarthy hearings of 1954,in which among other developments the Army charged Cohn and McCarthy with using improper pressure on Schine's behalf, while McCarthy and Cohn counter-charged that the Army was holding Schine "hostage" in an attempt to squelch

McCarthy's investigations into Communists in the Army. During the hearings, a photograph of Schine was introduced, and Joseph N. Welch, the Army's attorney in the hearings, accused Cohn of doctoring the image to show Schine alone with Army Secretary Robert T. Stevens.[11] Although the findings of the hearings blamed Cohn rather than McCarthy, they are widely considered an important element of McCarthy's disgrace.
In 1986, a five-judge panel of the Appellate Division of the New York State Supreme Court disbarred Cohn for unethical and unprofessional conduct, including misappropriation of clients' funds, lying on a bar application, and pressuring a client to amend his will. In this case in 1975, Cohn entered the hospital room of a dying and comatose Lewis Rosenstiel, the multi-millionaire founder of Schenley Industries, forced a pen to his hand and lifted it to the will in an attempt to make himself and Cathy Frank—Rosenstiel's granddaughter—beneficiaries. The resulting marks were determined in court to be indecipherable and in no way a valid signature.[16]

Cohn aided Roger Stone in Ronald Reagan's presidential campaign in 1979–80. Cohn helped Stone arrange for John B. Anderson to get the nomination of the Liberal Party of New York, a move that would help split the opposition to Reagan in the state. Stone said Cohn gave him a suitcase that Stone avoided opening and, as instructed by Cohn, dropped it off at the office of a lawyer influential in Liberal Party circles. Reagan carried the state with 46 percent of the vote. Speaking after the statute of limitations for bribery had expired, Stone later said, "I paid his law firm. Legal fees. I don't know what he did for the money, but whatever it was, the Liberal party reached its right conclusion out of a matter of principle."[17]

He lost his law license during the last month of his life.

Cohn and McCarthy targeted many government officials and cultural figures not only for suspected Communist sympathies, but also for alleged homo***uality.[25] McCarthy and Cohn were responsible for the firing of scores of gay men from government employment, and strong-armed many opponents into silence using rumors of their homo***uality.[26][27]Former U.S. Senator Alan K. Simpson has written: "The so-called 'Red Scare' has been the main focus of most historians of that period of time. A lesser-known element ... and one that harmed far more people was the witch-hunt McCarthy and others conducted against homo***uals."[28]

Cohn's male lover was his number 2 , G David Schine who got the position over Teddy Kennedy to avoid accusations of anti-semitism.

Cohn went on to be an advisor to Nixon and Reagan, they deserved each other

These are the people responsible for the Red Scares of the late 40's and early 50's.All the while tacitly presided over by Eisenhower who sat on his hands and allowed America to indulge and wallow in this disgraceful episode of its history.

Cohn died of Aids in1986, but not before he had ruined the lives of hundreds of innocent people .

Ronald Reagan was the front man for US big business and the armaments industry, under his watch the $$$$$$$ "Star Wars" programme escalated out of all rational understanding, this in a country just emerging from a terrible recession.

Then you fundamentally disagree with your own constitution.

The Bill of Rights protects freedom of speech, freedom of religion, the right to keep and bear arms, the freedom of assembly and the freedom to petition. It also prohibits unreasonable search and seizure, cruel and unusual punishment and compelled self-incrimination. Among the legal protections it affords, the Bill of Rights prohibits Congress from making any law respecting establishment of religion and prohibits the federal government from depriving any person of life, liberty or property without due process of law. In federal criminal cases it requires indictment by a grand jury for any capital offense, or infamous crime, guarantees a speedy public trial with an impartial jury in the district in which the crime occurred, and prohibits double jeopardy.

The Communist Manifesto doesn't prescribe murder to all those who disagree. It advocates a revolution, abolition of private property of the capitalist class and power put in the hands of the workers. Yes, that's obviously going to include some bloodshed because the capitalist class aren't going to give up easily.

It was written in 1848, and the conditions of the working class were appalling.

In the history of America I suspect far more workers have been murdered and brutalized by the bosses than the other way round. For striking or whatever. That's not even including slavery.

How would you judge a slave uprising where the slaves murder their masters ?
Or are they just perceived "slaves" and perceived "masters" ?

It's ironic because your objection to them seems to be their intolerance.
I feel the same about fascists and Nazis, to be fair. :good

The intolerant objecting to the intolerant with no sense of irony.
    I don't understand how they can't see the contradiction.:huh

Joe Louis once said "there's nothing wrong with this country that Hitler would fix".
I feel the same way about Red Baiters:good

No, I am suggesting a closeddoor talk with no media at a neutral location. Tell Iran they either allow either allow full inspections to assure you not trying to make nuclear weapons, or else. If they comply lift some sanctions.

If Iran has nothing to hide, they take this deal.

The or else is a demolition job of suspected sites with troops on the ground for a short period of time to finish the job in the production areas only, but no goals for a regime change. It would be an in and out process. No boots on the ground for years.

Iran is on record saying it wants to remove Israel from the map. If they had nuclear weapons, I believe there is at least a 50% chance they would be crazy enough to use them, someone could steal them, or Iran could sell them to someone other group that would use them against the Israel or the west. The USA and the UK are targets too.

If Iran had nukes and attacked the say Israel things get out of control as Israel would quickly counter attack with their own nuclear weapons and you lose 50+ million people, put the world economy into recession, and possibly spark WW III.

So you see negotiation to disarm or acting if Iran does not allow inspections is better than waiting for a disaster to happen.

Give a man a cause an he becomes a much better fighter. Is Vitali too old? Hard sparring in the gym after 2 months of working out would tell the truth. I still think he's got enough to win back the WBC belt, and break Foreman's record.

When was the last time Iran attacked another country ?
    I can't recall.
And yet somehow they are "50% crazy enough" to nuke the world.

Meanwhile, the USA invades, bombs and attacks on the regular, has its military in every corner of the globe, in every sea and ocean. And is the only country in history to have ever nuked anyone. So put them in charge of peace etc. It all makes sense.

...... and, er, wouldn't it make sense to get Israel to dismantle their own already-existing nuclear arsenal before making a big fuss about Iran's fledgling nuclear programme ?
Obviously both things are completely impractical and beyond the abilities of the USA, and people who think otherwise are overestimating America's real influence.

Iran is surrounded by nuclear powers (Israel, Russia, Pak!stan) and hostile countries, US bases, Israel, ISIS and Arab enemies.
Obviously, ANY responsible Iranian government is duty-bound to seek the nuclear deterrent.

    Pak!stan, for chrissakes.
    They already have nukes.

I don't care if Reagan did a deal that freed hostages and gave 2nd rate arms to battle another foe of the USA's. The USA gives arms and aid to many nations. All presidents do it.

Reagan's famous quote "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" The wall fell with Bush as President, but the ground work was Reagan's

Reagan took over a country that was in a mess. Below is part of his legacy:

Ronald Reagan appointed the first woman to the Supreme Court by nominating Sandra Day O'Connor to replace Justice Potter Stewart. O'Connor was confirmed by Congress on Sep. 21, 1981 by a vote of 99-0. [3]

Crime: On Oct. 2 1982, Reagan launched a "War on Drugs" that helped reduce the high rate of casual drug use lingering from the 1970s. [7] He increased funding for the drug war from $1.5 billion in 1981 to $2.75 billion in 1986. [8] Reagan also signed eight major Executive Orders related to crime and justice as well as five major crime bills: Comprehensive Crime Control Act of 1984, Sentencing Reform Act of 1984, National Narcotics Leadership Act of 1984, Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1986, and Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1988. [9]

Defense: Reagan strengthened the weak, ineffectual, and vulnerable military which Carter left behind. The Reagan administration funded research and development of weapons systems, including stealth technology and precision weaponry, later used in both Persian Gulf wars. Reagan's largest peacetime defense buildup in history, which included larger training ranges and military pay increases, helped invigorate the American military from its Vietnam War-era despondency. [10]

Economy: Reagan's economic policies, such as a reduction in government spending and regulation and cuts in taxes, resulted in an unprecedented 92-month long economic boom, from Nov. 1982 to July 1990, with expansion and growth in the GDP (+36%), employment (+20 million jobs), and the Dow Jones Industrial Average (+15%). [11]

Education: After "A Nation at Risk", a negative report on the nation's educational system, was released in Apr. 1983, President Reagan increased the budget for the Department of Education by $6 billion over the next three years.[12] During the Reagan Administration, state education aid increased 20%, or almost $35 billion and, in 1988, it comprised a nearly 50% slice of revenue from all sources for education. [13]

Environment: Between 1982 and 1988, Reagan signed 43 bills designating more than 10 million acres of federal wilderness areas in 27 states. This acreage accounted for nearly 10% of the National Wilderness Preservation System at the time. Reagan had signed more wilderness bills than any other president since the Wilderness Act was enacted in 1964. [14]

Foreign Policy: Reagan helped bring an end to the 46-year-old Cold War, through a combination of hostile, anti-communist rhetoric and a massive arms buildup followed by skillful diplomacy and disarmament. On Nov. 9, 1989, just over two years after his famous Brandenburg Gate speech, the Berlin Wall fell, marking the end of communism in Germany. [15] On Dec. 15, 1991, after four bilateral summits with Reagan, General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev dissolved the Soviet Union. [2][16]

Health: On Apr. 7, 1986, Reagan signed the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) into law. As of Sep. 30, 2010, COBRA is still in effect and gives some workers who lose their health benefits, for example in situations such as job loss or reduction in hours worked, the right to choose to continue health benefits provided by their employer's group health plan. [17]

Labor: When Reagan followed through on his Aug. 3, 1981 threat to fire 12,176 striking air traffic controllers (PATCO), he held the controllers to their signed affidavit stating that they would not "participate [in any strike] while an employee of the Government of the United States." [18] Reagan brought in military air traffic controllers as replacements to ensure there was no disruption of a major public service. [19] His actions helped curtail future frivolous strikes as they plummeted from an average of 300 each year in the decades before the PATCO strike to fewer than 30 in 2006. [20]

Science/Technology: Reagan was a big supporter of the National Aeronautics & Space Administration (NASA). In his 1984 State of the Union Address, Reagan announced plans for what came to be the International Space Station. [64] On Jan. 30, 1987, Reagan also announced that he planned to fund the building of the Superconducting Super Collider, a $4.5 billion dollar particle accelerator used for high energy physics research. [21][22]

Social Policy: To "finally break the poverty trap," as Reagan stated in his 1987 State of the Union Address, he signed the Family Support Act on Oct. 12, 1988. [5] The Act required states to establish and operate a Job Opportunities and Basic Skills program (JOBS) to assure needy families with children obtain the training and employment necessary to avoid long-term welfare. [23] Reagan also helped save Social Security by passing the Social Security Reform Act of 1983. It provided extra revenue dedicated to securing the solvent future of Social Security. [24]

Taxes: Through massive tax cuts, Reagan helped restore an economy that had both high inflation and unemployment left over from the 1970s. As he brought taxation down from 70% to 28%, Reagan proved that reducing excessive tax rates stimulates growth, increases economic activity, and boosts tax revenues. Government revenues from income tax rose from $244 billion in 1980 to $446 billion in 1989. [25]

Other: Reagan helped to reduce inefficiencies in the federal bureaucracy. When Reagan took office, it took seven weeks to get a Social Security card and 43 days to get a passport. By the time he left office, both could be had in 10 days.

Fighting dirty wars and funding terrorist groups is a far cry from invading or nuking neighbouring countries.
    The USA funds terrorism too.
