I totally agree with the assessment that it's too early to compare him with Foster. Let Kovalev mix it up with Ward, Stevenson, Bute or at least two out of three first.

Kovalev did stop Boone in the rematch and while Boone was technically on his feet had the ref not intervened he would of been counted out and maybe seriously hurt. So I don't feel Stevenson has an edge in performance against Boone.

Foster lands the cold**** on Kovalev in six rounds, maybe earlier.

Ugh. Stevenson also lost to Boone.

But I'm not going to keep going to that well.

Watching the actual fights its obvious who's punches had more of an effect.

Kovalev had Boone hurt early but being his first fight since he killed a man in the ring was hesitant, picking his shots carefully while Boone was not fighting back off the ropes, forcing a second round stoppage from an understandably nervous official.

Stevenson hammered Boone on the ropes over and over again for 6 rounds while the official watched on until an exhausted and battered Boone finally came out of his shell and walked into a home run punch.

foster is an atg with such skills. he came unstuck against legends in the division above him. ko4clev may be a killer, literally, but what he can kill has so far an upper limit below the level of elite beyond which he has yet to reach (40something Hopkins cannot be considered elite. A half tank man, no matter what his skills is never top notch).

foster comfortably handles ko4clev as things stand.

Fair enough BE. I wasn't aware of the weights. But just looking at the Hopkins fight, Kovalov appeared the bigger fighter...by quite a bit. That physicality (and of coarse his game plan) played a part in the fight. Imo.

That isn't really relevant to the original question.

What was the reason he only got a split decision the first time they fought?:think

You're "interpretation ,"of their second fight does not jive with the footage of the fight.

There is no hesitancy from Kovalev he is going for it. Trying to ko Boone.

I'll say this for Boone,he's game.

    Stevenson knocked him senseless.

In the post fight interview Kovalev stated he didn't think about the Simanov fight at all ,so you are way off base there.
Smoger made the right call, I saw no nervousness in his actions Boone was not firing back.
N.B. I said Kovalev is open to the left hook, look at the tape around the 6 min mark, Boone lands flush with his but he doesn't carry the power to dent Kovalev's chin.[8 stoppages in44 fights].
Plus he is a super middleweight.
The Russian carries his chin high, like a lot of European fighters,he has got away with it so far because he has been fighting trial horses.
I would like to see Kovalev take one of Stevenson's left hooks flush.

Want to have a Fun US $x UK £ bet with me, should they meet? Say $50?

Kovalev will be favourite, so you'll have better odds than you'd get off a bookie.

-Kovalev is getting better with every fight, Boone was his first test, and split decision win is better than a second round knockout loss.

-I admit to going from memory and its possible Kovalev's developing measured approach at the time falsely implanted the idea of him being hesitant in his comeback fight.

-I don't believe top 3 RING fighters and Hopkins are trial horses.

-I only do account bets here. I can't do cash bets anymore.

I don't understand the underlined, can you explain it for me?
    I was talking about a gentleman's agreement.
If I win, you send me the UK equivalent of $50,if you win, I do the same in dollars.

So Kovalev has been fighting trail horses according to McVey. LOL

I have watched Kovalev in the amateurs and pro's. He took some shots from Beterbiev who hits even harder than Stevenson. Outside of a perfectly placed hook, Kovalev not going to pull a Lennox Lewis and suddenly lose.

Hahaha! So you are willing to accept that as an excuse, but not kovalev's? At least be consistent if you are going to play this game.

Yes kovalev didnt look good against boone, but so what? He still beat him the first time and then went on to stop him in the second fight.
