    of boxing......

The majority of boxing fans just like to watch fights but they do not understand the business side I feel that more needs to be done In terms educating the casual on business and finances of boxing networks this I feel would make them pay for fights wisely.

For example showtime have invested heavily in the boxing side most casuals assume they are making lots of money and showtime can portray they are doing well but people who understand business and finances know they are telling porkies.Their expenditure has been overboard some of the numbers they have been quoting have been crazy they have also stopped revealing their ppv numbers the reason for this is if they were to reveal it this would create a bad vibe surrounding their company.

I really feel the boxing fan should take a keen intrest in the business side of boxing because this could also force fighters to fight the best.

No. Even if the casual fan understood the business side, he wouldn't give a ****.

problem is, there seems to be a large number of casual fans of a certain fighter that have a hard time reading and understanding what they've just read.

Nope. Some fans can enjoy the fights without wanting or needing to know the myriad of **** attached to it.

In the past, boxing networks like HBO have done a good job of exposing the corruption within alphabet groups, so I do think the casual fan has an idea that politics are involved in matchmaking and what goes on in the ring.
However, over the years because of their greed for the might dollar, its the networks who broadcast that have become just as corrupt if not more so than the alphabet groups themselves.

The problem lies in that the networks bring voice in the form of opinion to their audience the casual fan. The casual fan does'nt know any better but to believe it.
The only people in tune to the truth are those that love the sport so much that they follow it in print through the various articles and video interviews on the web.

So yeah, it would be ideal for the casual fan to be in tune but that difficult when theres corruption everywhere from the tv people to the print folks who are paid off by the powers that be.

Great post yea I agree with everything you wrote especially the bit about networks form of opinion being forced down to their audience so the casuals just go along with it.

It's a damn shame we've had "the business side" shoved in faces the last few years. Boxing is a business is an excuse that squirmed its way to the top of the list and gets thrown around nonstop thanks to floyd n haymon. Soon as I hear "boxing is a business" or "you have to understand the business side of boxing" the first thing I think is DUCK. Right or wrong you don't gotta understand the business side of any other damn sport to enjoy it so why should boxing fans have to? Now this new breed of fan says ydksab if you don't follow the ppv numbers or swing on a manager or promoters nuts, like they are in the ring. Look, you only gotta know the business side if you feel you need to have your excuses ready when your fave fighter ducks a dangerous opponent.

You just mentioned ppv numbers let use that as a example if for example a fighter gets paid really good money fighting squids and his ppv numbers are doing great their will be no pressure from his employer(network) to take challenging fighters but if the casual fan understands this and does not pay for these fights his ppv number subsequently drop and he will be forced to take tougher fights so ppv numbers are important.

I'm not sure that would work. I think a casual fan will buy a fight if he thinks it is an interesting fight, simple as that.
