Hopkins on Kovalev. I felt like a middleweight in there against a cruiserweight

Even so, 169lbs is still nothing for a modern middleweight. All this talk of Hopkins being some huge middleweight (even natural cruiserweight:lol:) is just nonsense. Huge middleweights/natural cruiserwights do not get themselves down to 156lbs at the age of 39.

Hopkins only moved up in weight when he was at an age where most other fighters have been long retired and his metabolism had slowed down to the point where he no longer found it as easy to make 160. It wasn't case of him finally, after 18 years as a pro and almost 50 fights inside the 160 limit, fighting at his "real" weight, he was just doing what his aging body told him to do.

I wonder how De La Hoya and Simon Brown felt fighting him.

Hopkins was disciplined and dedicated but his was a big middleweight...stood 6'1" first fight he weighed 177lbs and worked his way down to 160.

Hopkins has gotten more attention and post fight buzz after his humbling loss to Kovalev than he has gotten for any of his wins since Pavlik.

    Lame.

He had the same excuse against Dawson.

"When the first scorecard was announced a tie, what was going through your head?" -Max

"I thought to myself, I hope I don't have to fight this Cruiserweight again." -Bernard

    Um, no, Bernard. Just no.

So now we are supposed to feell empathy for a guy who rejoices over being the impetus for Pavlik's life falling apart and who made a joke about Simakov's death?

What makes you guys think he is complaining or looking for empathy. Seems to me that he's just telling it like it is. Kovalev was much stronger and more powerful so he felt like a MW fighting a CW.

Whats with all the butthurt in here

Hes saying how he felt, if anything its a compliment to kovalev on how strong he was and how weak he made hopkins feel. :patsch

Hopkins jumped through hoops to fight the most feared man in his division, to put his title on the line in the process, took his beating like a man and is humble in defeat and yet some of you still have something to ***** about.... ****ing boxing fans :patsch

Hopkins looked like the bigger man to me, Kovalev the stronger. Hopkins needs to stop with the excuses, he's enjoyed a far heavier size advantage (if Kovalev even had one) over most of his opponents throughout his career for most it, so he's sounding ridiculous.

"At the end of the day, if I can get a guy to a weight class where I know he's not used to or hasn't been in - why wouldn't I take that advantage or take that chance.''

    --Bernard Hopkins

    :patsch

And anyway Hopkins looked like the bigger fighter. In the upper body, in the shoulders, he had more muscle masses than Kovalev.
At the weigh in he looked slightly taller, too.
