As far as Charisma Dempsey was the guy, before Duran and before Tyson and a combination of both. Dempsey was one of the best for ring presence and I put him up there with Ali but with a different look, Tyson copied Jack,Haircut, no socks, and meanness. Duran may have not copied him but had the look and the meanness

I think Dempsey could be charismatic when he wanted to be. He came across well in interviews.

Where do you get this from? Greb and Tunney never fought a 12 rounder. Their last fight in 1923 was competetive even if Tunney deserved it and their fight in Cleveland in 1924 was called a win for Greb by the majority of the sources. One of the only sources to say Tunney won was written by a guy who a year later was working as Tunney's press secretary...

Actually the general consensus was 9-4 not 8-4 with 2 rds even I am talking about the 1923 fight, the 1924 fight press favored Greb and the last fight was a dominant win for Tunney and most felt Greb was outclassed the last fight was in 1925 and Jack Dempsey did not comeback until 1926

Wills was a rank novice when he sparred Johnson even so he roughed Johnson up a bit. He went to Johnson Willard to challenge the winner.

Jack Johnson talked down about every champion after his reign, Wills, Dempsey and Louis.

How many Wills Langford bouts did Johnson attend? What about any of Wills other top wins? If he didn't see them how would he know how good Wills was or wasn't?

Which is why we Lesnevich and Maxim are above Ezzard Charles at LHW.

Will never roughed up Johnson at all, he was fired because he couldnt take the heat.
Johnson was a regular fight goer , he was a fixture at the big fights. Johnson picked Louis to ko Carnera ,Schmeling to ko Louis, and Dempsey to beat either Wills or Louis had they met.

You never saw Wills v Langford how do you know how good they were? I'll take Johnson's opinion over yours.

When he was champion one of Johnson's sparring partners was Kid Cotton Johnson went into print boosting him several times .Cotton was black. Here they are together.

    This content is protected

You keep coming out with the inaccuracies, and I'll keep correcting you.:good
PS Cotton knocked out Wills in 2 rounds.

Both men had very good resumes to be honest.

Dempsey was only stopped once, LKOby1 to Fireman Jim Flynn. He also stopped Flynn in the 1st round. A lot of people think both of these fights may have been fixed.

Wills had 5 KO losses, 4 of them were within the first 6 years of his pro career, roughly. The last KO loss came after 16 years as a pro. He was stopped by George Kid Cotton LKOby2, Sam Langford LKOby14 and LKOby19, Battling Jim Johnson LKOby2, and Paulino Uzcudun LKOby4.

He did beat Langford though, he went 13-2-2 (2) vs. him lifetime (including their newspaper decision fights). He went 3-2 (1) 1NC vs. Sam McVea. He drew with Joe Jeanette x2. He won two decisions over Battling Jim Johnson.

He also beat Willie Meehan W4, Fred Fulton KO3, Luis Firpo W12, Gunboat Smith, and others.

Fulton and Firpo had lasted less than 3 rounds between them against Dempsey.
Fulton was on a roll when Dempsey stopped him in 23seconds he had wins over:
    Cowler
    Weinert
    Flynn
    Flynn Jim
    Morris
    Moran
    Langford
    Smith
    Kaufman
    Pelkey
    And 35kos under his belt.
His win over Morris was an eliminator for the right to face Willard,Dempsey wrecking him like that was huge.

Firpo was not in good condition when he fought Wills, he had added surplus fat and was training himself to save money. Both of the Wills wins over them were creditable, but they had already been slaughtered by Dempsey. Wills stopping Gun boat Smith is not noteworthy he himself said ," I only took the fight for the boat ride",he had not won any of his last 5 fights and had been kod in his last 3 including a one round ko by Harry Greb, never known as a puncher.
Wills would have been stopped by Sharkey ,he was being hammered , but he fouled out to save himself a further beating.

As I do also...We know that they did sign for a fight with a
Michigan promoter, but because of financial contracts the fight never occurred...I too feel that Dempsey at his best would have
beaten Harry Wills were they to have clashed, as did the majority of boxing writers concurred...After seeing Wills on film past his peak he reminds me of a later day Ernie Terrell in build and
straight up style, not a recipe to beat Dempsey...Alas, we shall never know Mc...

Funny thing is, if Dempsey, Kearns, Rickard and the rest were as confident that Wills was "made to order" for Dempsey as some are 100 years later, then the fight would have been made in an instant, let Dempsey beat Wills up and collect their millions, and remove a major asterisk over his reign.

B, according to you I'm damned if I say the majority of boxing opinions I have read from writers and boxers of the 1920s who chose Dempsey over Wills knew zilch then, and then I'm damned by YOU for giving my opinion ONE HUNDRED years later???
So the contemporaries of Dempsey are not to be believed and
today, 100 years later, are also opinions not to be valid...
Why the heck , we just should put an asterisk next to the name
Jack Dempsey and declare him persona non grata...?
