I always felt he was the worse out of the 4 in Barker, Lee, Murray and himself. He's had a decent career but needs to pack it in. Maybe he could fight Spike O'Sullivan.
Did very well to get to where he did in the first place. Extremely average fighter but he had alot of mongrel in him, as the Aussies would say.
Been on the cards. A lot of huff and puff recently but you could tell he had slipped. Good Euro / Fringe world class fighter in his prime but that was 2 -4 years ago.
Well maybe the Macklin threads will stop now, personally I have never rated him as world class. Battered tonight, has been battered before and hopefully he retires now. A word on Bernard Dunne, it is very refreshing to hear somebody on Sky Sports talking sense and telling the truth.
Eddie basically said "I ain't promoting him anymore" bad form. However, Macklin's last two performances were really bad against Russ and Yebes, this isn't surprising his punch resistance has never been great. If you look back at his peak and when he made his name in that war against Jamie Moore which he lost, it was his work rate and engine which made him feared. If he's lost that and his power is also on the decline (he hasn't had a knockout for a while) and the fact that Heiland just walked through his shots, then it's clear to see that surely he should retire. He looked tired in round five, and it's like watching him tread through mud and he is really forcing the punches, but it just takes so much out of him. In my opinion he should focus on training, he's a clever guy, articulate, popular and has a nice family too. He shouldn't be in the game when he hasn't got anymore, his health is far too important to take silly shots for small titles. I hope he looks at the tape and retires, because as a fan I don't want to watch him have another beating against a man he would have beaten 4-5 years ago easily.
Sky still banging on about "the robbery in Germany" ... A fight that happened over 3 years ago and 6 fights ago for Macklin. Let it go FFS
^ Agreed on the Dunne part. He was top class, IMO. Barker was as wooden as a tree once again. Macklin just got laid out - No doubts about it. Fading? More like you got hit on the button, Matt. It was a pretty savage looking ending after the punch. I've always liked Matt, but he needs to fight Lee or call it a day. His options are very thin atm.
