That's ridiculous. Did you see the string of bums Holmes and Tyson have fought in the 80s? These bums were all #1 contenders. That division's quality was appalling. Today is much better.

 

Pinklon Thomas would have embarrassed a guy like Pulev.

 

All of this, although I'm not convinced this era is really as weak as people claim.

 

Pulev is still better than anything limey island has, britbums like fury and chisora would both lose to pulev or povetkin

 

His resume allowed for it. I do think he's got the best HW resume only third to Wlad and Povetkin. The gap between #2 and #3 is just pretty big at the moment. Pulev is nowhere near Povetkin's level.

 

I don't know about that. Nothing last night indicated that Pulev was any better than Chisora or Fury honestly.

 

Chisora beat Hilenius , who is better than Pulev in every way , shape and form.

Vitali had a hard time with Chisora. Pulev would lose. A jab doesn't beat a high work rate pressure fighter.

Remember when both Lewis and Holyfield were champions you had the likes of Moorer, Botha and Akinwande as heavyweight champions.

Plus people like Vaughn Bean ancient Foreman and Holmes were still in the top 10.

If you think Pulev was a "top class operator" then sadly you're deluded and, it seems, only able to provide troll-like responses to sustain you're outlook.

Perhaps you could, instead, shed light on what makes Pulev a top-flight Boxer?

 

pulev basically fought last night by walking forward with his hands raised, and not ducking, dodging punches. it was a throwback to 19th century prizefighting. this is a man who had trouble with a 42 year old nobody, which was his BEST ever performance.


Thomas and co fought like skilled fighters. They'd not dream of facing a 42 year old nobody as a precursor to a title fight, much less make it their best opposition. if ithappened to them, they'd pinch themselves and laugh.

which makes me wonder if you have seen the fighters of the 80s.


there is no comparison, today is weaker. that doesn't mean that the top cream isn't comparable with yesteryears though.

Bum Randall Cobb wouldn't be a top 10 HW today. He was a #1 contender in the 80s. Cobb's technique, stamina, workrate and punch are a joke. Absolutely ridiculous. I rest my case.

 

It's not ridiculous and I made no comparison with any other era/decade so quite what you are retorting against, I don't know.

It does seem that the 80's are used by Klitschko fans to somehow bolster today's Heavyweight division somewhat. It's a mantra I see written in one form or another whenever, the current division is mentioned as being weak - which it is.

And, to suggest this current division is "much better" than that of the 80's is really stretching.

 

Pulev is top 5 for sure, but Povetkin has more power and better chin. With a fair ref Wlad-Pvetkin 2 would be a great fight.
