A flower wilts; another blossoms. Such is just nature's way. ...and is the way of the Irish not to know that in the end the world is always going to break your heart? Surely must apply to being an Irish boxing fan as well.
Very poetic:gayfight. Just kidding at this late hour, Im still a little merry from the huge amount of drink taken at the fights yesterday and the cure that followed today. All in all I enjoyed it:thumbsup
You talk through your hole,at least give Lee untill after his world title shot, you must be a Brit in disguise, putting down our boxers like that.
The possibility of a Spike fight was put to Matt in one of the post fight interviews, and he ruled it out completely. The only fight even remotely feasible for Matt now might be a wrap-up retirement cash-out gig with Andy Lee, assuming Andy loses his next fight, both he and Matt will have no-where else to go. That might happen next year, possibly. But as I say, my preference would be for both lads to call it a day for good right now. There's been no point in Andy continuing for some time, ( although I know this is not a pc thing to say), and now sadly Matthew is in the same boat IMO. :bbb
:huh not sure where you coming from there, bud??? "A Brit in disguise"??? Putting down irish boxers????:huh
Macklin won't get beat up by Spike, unless Spike has improved dramatically, which the Fitz performance might point to. But it's only one fight, when Spike is putting away more decent fighters away with ease ill start to believe. Macklin is still to experienced and has too many weapons for someone who's pretty limited like Spike.
Whatever about his "exact" words it was Pretty much along the lines of " if. I can't be competitive at world level I'll call it a day rather than step down and continue at a lower level against Spike...." He didn't mean any slur on Spike in saying that in case it comes across that was in print. I don't think Spike can be considered world class just yet on the basis of clobbering Fitzy in one fight. Let's see him string another couple of impressive wins together first....
There is no way for that not to come off a slap in the face. Nobody is suggesting that Spike is world class, I don't think, but Macklin needs to stop believing that he still is (was only ever just, fringe), or that anything less is "beneath" him.
How about Macklin vs. Lee, the loser retires and the victor gets the spoils of being retired by Spike? :deal It may not be the most dignified way for two erstwhile "world class" laddies to go out, but at least they'll be paid well and give their fans at home a last couple of memorable donnybrooks? :deal
What makes you so sure Spike would retire them anyways, ive never rated him that highly? Our three young up and coming middleweights (Quigley, Cummings and Keeler) look like they will be a class ahead of him soon anyways.
Nor do I. They're just both ripe for the picking. Spike is at least as good as Russ or Yebes, wouldn't you say? And he annihilated someone Lee went life and death and needed a gift decision over. (and Lee was looking horrid against Jackson before the hail Mary punch saved his bacon)
Doesn't Lee have a title fight coming up????? I don't fancy his chances, but you never know.... Time for Mack to retire though, he's had a respectable career.
Agreed BJ. Surely at least one of those 3 will do some damage. About Spike...if he has gained some fluidity and speed he could be a real threat, cos he is tough and has power. I know it's hard to make any judgement based on one minutes boxing against Fitzy, but he did look a lot looser, quicker, more fluid than in the past. Maybe it's all the good sparring with Murray, BJS etc
