Does defending against a lot of bums make a fighter great?

If a guy fights a lottta bums and beats them, say like duane bobick back in the day...does that make him a great fighter? Obviously the answer is no.

but there's a reason I bring this up....i don't blame klitschko for the terrible state of heavyweight boxing...but let's say lennox lewis or mike tyson were to have defended their titles 50 times against guys like alex leapai or pianetta or cortez treadwell...would that have made them great?

now, i know people make the same argument about joe louis...that he had the bum of the month club. he reigned over a weak heavyweight division...but a lot of the guys louis fought were actually solid guys in their prime. he just made them look like bums.

can we say the same for klitschko?

does being champ in a very, very, very, extremely, terribly weak era mean anything at all?

should we just put an asterisk next to the klitschko name in boxing history as the "transition" years when HW boxing was gone and forgotten?

Are you gonna sit there and type that wlad didn't get KO'd by purrity, sanders and brewster? all of whom were less than stellar performers? Stiverne, wilder and jennings aint pianetta, wach, leapai, mormeck and pulev...

Nowaday it's different...you defend against bums and make them wear pillow gloves in order to be called great.

seth mitchell, bryant jennings, wilder, rahman etc all became heavyweight contenders after being football players all their lives then switching to boxing...the LEADING contenders. what does that say about the state of boxing?

It's not about anybody in particular...it's just a general question with no ulterior motive...consider it a purely intellectual exercise. :D

If by bums you mean "two-, three- and four-time world champs" and by pillows you mean "regulation" gloves, then you have a point.

Stop making EVERYTHING about race...I'm sick of all this talk about racism where none exists.

Yeh Jennings is the only relevant fighter out that bunch. I'd bet once wlad retires the heavyweight division will be rules by povetkin, Joshua, fury and in a couple of years time another Ukrainian named olexandsr usyk a cruiserweight

lol...typically you picked the least of the bunch as the most "relevant" because that's the one you're least scared of :rofl
