I think Chris has a great chance. I don't believe his stand up ability is that great, but he has good lateral movement, he throws a lot of punches, and has a significant size and reach advantage over Pacquaio. According to boxrec, Chris is 5'10'' with a 72" reach, while Pacquaio is a 5'6'' with a 67" reach. That's a pretty significant difference. The only issue I see with Chris is his actual stand up ability is not as effective as it could be, especially considering his reach and size; however, it also allows him to have quicker feet, which he could really use to frustrate Pacquaio by keeping him out of position. When Chris is stationary, Pacquaio will be able to hit Chris, but at the same time, Chris's reach will allow him to create perhaps just enough distance where he can comfortably move his feet when Pacquaio encroaches. This is a very dangerous fight due to Chris's awkward style. Initially, I was thinking Pac could consider counter punching Chris, by making Chris come to him, which is still a good idea, but Chris's overall size, despite his rudimentary stand up ability might prove too difficult an obstacle for Pacquaio to overcome. When it comes to a certain level, size does matter in boxing, especially when you consider styles. With that said, if Provo should have beaten Chris, because stylistically, he should have been able to break down a stand up boxer like Chris, but that didn't happen. Chris has good movement. His movement proved to good for Provo who is a pretty good come forward guy. I'm not saying Provo is great, but he has decent skills, just a very limited mental game and is prone to getting frustrated easily. Chris managed to defeat him clearly in my opinion. I don't know, it's possible Pacquaio could get beat. We'll never get to see that Mayweather fight after all.
I said before the Provodnikov fight that I was done being skeptical of Algieri taking dangerous steps up in cl***...but then again, this is Pacquiao. I don't know. :think
Nobody can escape age, and Pacquaio is not a fighter that is content with merely surviving. Also, Pacquaio's southpaw style puts him at a significant disadvantage considering all that distance Pacquaio has to cover, which is exacerbated due to Algieri's height. And when he does close distance, Algieri is pretty good at rotating, like he did in the Provo fight. I don't like this fight for Pacquaio. Honestly, I just want the Mayweather fight, but Mayweather might be able to worm his way out of this because I have a feeling Pacquaio is going to lose this fight. I hate to make this thread about Mayweather, but what a piece of ****. He talked all that **** about Pac and hurt Pac's earning potential by spreading allegations with no proof. You know, Pac had a much better case against Marquez considering who Marquez was working with, but you didn't see Pac say much if anything at all about Marquez. He took his loss like a man. Mayweather took the cowards way out. I know you have to be objective, so I don't expect you to comment about the Mayweather situation, but regarding Pac vs Algieri, I stand by my original post, Pac may very well lose this fight.
Algieri is still slower than Pacquaio and he isn't very fluid. He also doesn't have power to bother Pacquaio. Sorry but Chris is most likely going to sleep. If crude Provo could land on Algieri, Pacquaio isn't going to have trouble finding him.
I think all questions will be answered as early as round 3. If Chris can consistently rotate out of Pac's left and Pac can't counter with the right hook, if he can control and frustrate Pac with his jabs, then that's game right there. Pac just needs to be Pac, make some adjustments here and there to close the distance and as soon as Chris tastes that left hand, it will be a different story. I just hope if that happens, he won't pull a Mosley. Oh and to add, you gotta give props to Algieri's dedication. The kid is working his *** off for this fight. Pac on the other hand.. Well.. :conf
I give him a 10% chance at best and that 10% is for corrupt judges to do what they do best. Pacquiao's style is all wrong for Algieri.
And? Playing basketball 2 months before a boxing match is hardly "****inga round" It means hes actually staying in shape. As for talking in schools.....didnt Algieri do the exact same thing in 24/7 at his old college?
