They did, yes........went to a conference there a few years back for work and went to leave the hotel lobby one evening to find a restaurant for dinner, just to get a look around. The bellhop stopped me and basically wouldn't allow me to go walking around downtown at night. You just don't do that there.

Oh detroit is a war zone for sure. Lots of abandoned neighborhoods, homes, businesses, schools, etc. And of the top 10 most dangerous neighborhoods in the country about three of them are listed in motor city.

I read Tommy preferred the Motor City Cobra, so if that is good enough for Tommy...

But fair dues, some fighters have two or more nicknames, but few have such iconic ones like The Motor City Cobra Thomas The Hitman Hearns.

it seems a handful of fighters change their nicknames once they hit the big time and reach the world stage

Ali went from the Louisville Lip to The Greatest.

Tyson kid dynamite to Iron Mike.

I'm a huge Thomas Hearns fan...so naturally I thought both names were cool...but gotta lean towards "The Hitman" ...It's one of the best names of all time.

Yea ive been to Detroit quite a few times, im only 50 miles from there, you can buy a house there WITH PROPERTY FOR 1000 BUCKS, kind scary isn't it:-(

As far as Hearns goes, Cobra sounds kinda cheesy, and reminds me too much of that 84 karate movie with Ralph Macchio, didn't they call his rivals the Cobra's??, besides most people i know hate snakes...

    Hit man sounds better..

Didn't really matter to me i was never a Hearns fan, Hagler was my guy:yep

Tommy was the original, Bret admitted to using it after Hearns. I think they even did a bit of interacting once, probably when the WWF was in Detroit.

Bounder at a local bar, 10-0 is sawdust floor fights. 6' 7", down to ~ 285 now, was well over 300. A guy well under 1/2 his weight, a 'lil blues singer kid, tried to give him the WORST boxing nickname ever:

    "The Ticklish 'Taint". :fire
