Could it come down to the coaches

The way Nathan Cleverly is described by some people is some of the most inaccurate stuff you'll hear about any boxer out there... they make him sound like the second coming of pernell whitaker. When he comes in flat footed, standing in perfect punching range for his opponent, not throwing on the way in, behind a high but flimsy guard, he's one of the most hittable fighters in boxing. I think it'll be his undoing if he does that at cruiserweight, be it against Bellew or someone else.

I watched the first fight between them again the other day and the thing that struck me which I must have forgot about in the time since that fight, was how much he allowed Bellew to land on him. He can't continue to do that because at some point he'll come up against someone, like Kovalev, whose shots can't be easily absorbed and when that happens you need a plan B... Cleverly has never shown he has that and Imo it's the biggest limiting factor for him as a boxer.

 

I think bellew was bang on the money when he said clev should have stayed with Adam booth, if he did then id fancy his chances. As it stands i think its gonna be a quick nights work for tony.

I also love David Coldwells phrase of intellectual bombing. If he sticks to that and doesn't waste to many punches then he will putting clev in limbo

Which other fights you looking forward to billy? Really liking degale vs periban and smith against sjekloka. Be interesting to see how smith compares to the jobs bika and Abraham did on him.

 

Vince clev is still bitter about liam williams leaving to go to lockets gym ,as for Enzo hearts not in it

 

For me Clev has all the tools to pick Tony apart. He should be patient move his head and out box the one dimensional bellew. Anyone that is a bit tricky Tony only has one plan- the Chilemba fights prove this. He will become increasingly frustrated and Clev will stop him late.

 

In no way is quigg a world champ.

He doesn't even hold a proper world title strap never mind being an actual champ.

That is why he is down the bill.

 

Can understand your point Billy, but I believe because of the two names in question, the rivalry Bellew v Clev should be top of bill. I agree at this moment in time Quigg is best fighter on bill though. I am just shocked bill was not put on in Manchester, would have sold old (twice the capacity)

 

I also think Cleverly is way to easy to hit, and don't see how a coach with to my knowledge zero experience is going to have done much to remedy this.
That said I don't buy into Bellew being tho murderous puncher. decent yes, massive, no.
I think the fight will be close but pretty non eventful tbh, Bellew is going to try and box long IMO, and Clev thinking that by throwing lot of shots is the key, and I take that to mean raiding tactics.

Stinker on the way IMO.

 

It'll be a massive anti-climax.
