Chuvalo even says Frazier was harder to hit than Ali.

Well, Wepner actually faced Liston so he'd be one to know wouldn't he?

Ellis on the other hand said Joe was not hard to hit.

Who won the world heavyweight title and was victorious in the highest profile and most anticipated fight in heavyweight history, defeating the consensus greatest heavyweight of all time.

All out offence is a pretty good defence! A perpetually moving target, slipping and then unloading when inside, winging in powerful shots when the space opened up and total faith in his ability to take a few shots.....it was a nightmare for all but his greatest foes. I don't like to split his defence and offence and consider them separately as it was all part of his style. One-dimensional maybe but beautifully executed at a very high tempo.

George Chuvalo: Best defense: Joe Frazier, believe it or not. He was very hard to hit and bobbing and weaving was natural to him. He’s recognized as a great fighter, but not many people compliment Joe on his defense. Joe was excellent at avoiding straight punches, which was the reason he gave Ali so much trouble in the first fight. He slipped the punches and closed the gap.

Foreman on the other hand, had those crushing uppercuts, and roundhouse powerful punches that broke through Joe defenses. "Underneath, underneath" Archie Moore kept yelling at George to do in Foreman v Frazier 1.

He slipped and rolled pretty well but he was always on the attack. Joe got hit plenty and he did tuck his chin pretty well. With that said he caught punches. He had to. Joe was forced because of his height {6.0}ft. tall to have to get past the blazing guns of his opponents who were quite often taller. It would have been worse had he tried to fight from the outside or midrange.
