As a general rule, fighters with fan friendly styles get overrated whereas Cory Spinks's get thrown under the bus. Duran definitely had a fan friendly style.

You could argue he's not the fourth best lightweight of all time, let alone the fourth best fighter.

when this place had avatars, he was my constant, never changing choice. He's my favourite of the four and my personal pick for best LW ever. he's also in my top 10 p4p.

having said that, this forum (and the boxing community in general), overrate anyone who hasn't fought in 20 or so years or more. More than any other sport, hyperbole exists in boxing.

So yes, he's overrated. Along with every other ATG not named Floyd, Manny or Joe

At the age of 38 he walked through a huge prime middleweight and took his title.

    The answer is no.

He's not overrated yet at the same time I wouldn't place him above Hagler, Hearns or Leonard.

Certainly an all time great and yet overated by some.

If you rank him in the top 3 greatest fighters p4p in history he's being overated. He belongs in the top 10 IMO.

If you do think Durans overrated then your a ****ing ******. The mans a legend. Prob the greatest lightweight and a stick on top 10 ATG. I have him about 7 or 8. As all round skill set goes he's the best we have extensive footage of.
Just watching him at his best is pure gold. The most complete boxer/fighting machine along with SRR imo.

If that were the criteria, I too would be a legend.

    Every poster has his.................idiom.

Possible? It is a fact. , overrated as ****, it is a sorprise TO me that no one OF his biggest fans never did argue that h2h he did hit harder than ali, that he would tire foreman. And then duran would stop him or even that he could fly

He's the modern Dempsey but with a big win for added flavor. I guess that makes him a lot better than Benny Leonard and Joe Gans. Carlos Ortiz has a better lightweight resume.

I have he and Leonard one and two, going back and forth depending on my mood.

All time LB4LB, I have him top 10.

I would not agree with Duran at #4 but at least someone could make the argument and I would not laugh.

Well you could. He was a great fighter. But you could rate him 25 and I wouldn't laugh.
