Didn't you heard him ranting when ortiz-berto was done in catchweight of 145+1 or when floyd fought marquez at 144 but missed the actual catchweight?
that would be more in favor for algieri then since he doesn't have to come up all the way to the welterweight limit.Pac's a nice guy like that. Im pretty sure pac needs to have a fight at 140 or close to it to see how he feels fighting at that weight he cant just monitor that on his own lol.have you forgotten about chad dawson swearing up and down that dropping down another weigh class would not affect him.we all know how that turned out and no it wasn't all andre ward.
It may do neither on the surface but why contractually stipulate what another boxer can weigh in a contest for the welterweight title, with 147lbs being the defined limit for welterweight? Yeah, okay, having the leverage means you can - but why do it? All it does is give haters ammunition - while nudging neutral observers closer toward being haters. ***** move, plain and simple.
He wouldn't have to come up anyway, though. If the limit is 147lbs, that means the maximum is. Algieri can weigh 146.9lbs, or 145lbs, or 142.6lbs...or hell, 128.5lbs. You have to weigh under the limit. There is no minimum.
Neutrals and casuals gonna listen to and believe whatever is popular at the moment. People who really wanna know will dig a little deeper.. I think the fact we fans even act like these belts still even matter, make the **** storm go round. There are exceptions, where alphabet champs are the real champs. But organizations, promoters, managers, and now advisors... man weights are my least concern..
If they are least concern and don't matter why should the A-side in the negotiations make a fuss about putting a three pound handicap stipulation in the contract? Kind of a punk ***** thing for a heavily favored A-side to be worrying about, considering weights are "least concern", don't you think?
Huh? Yes, Berto/Ortiz was at a 146 pound catchweight. Floyd/Marquez was changed to a 147 pound limit in the days before the fight. Marquez signed that contract. So, that fight was at 147 pounds and both parties made the limit.
It's just a Weak move to me flat out.... I just don't get why they even thought to do this..... Like Roach said this guy is not even in Pac's class...... PAC should beat him in under 3 rounds period
So changing the stipulations a day or 2 before the weight in makes it ok now? I have no problem with catchweights unlike you guys but didn't you think jmm trained several months before knowing that 144 was the actual weight contracted?
I know that.Pac does it all the time. and no ones coming in at 126 if you move up ur going to put on weight to deal with the bigger stronger guys.my point is algieri is fighting closer to his weight class and he can fight at his normal weight if wants so who cares its a non issue.
The answer was mentioned by several posters already. Pac might fight at 140 next and this is like a test if he can get to the weight safely. Unless you have other agenda, then I agree that your agenda has failed miserably.
You're joking right ??? I don't have an agenda I don't think this makes sense at all for a guy who is light years better than this kid..... Boxing is just not the same anymore
In my opinion some of it has to do with the flak people gave him for bringing Rios up to WW, I see it as a compromise, and you are right he can monitor it for ****s and giggles but why put himself at a complete disadvantage by fighting at JWW and maybe draining himself, i also believe it being a title fight is completely stupid, but i see the weight limit as a catch 22 sometimes because even though 147 is the limit and coming under of your own accord is fine, making a catchweight is ridiculed, I see it as I said before as a compromise, Pac wont have to drain himself and Algieri wont be too uncomfortable with trying to gain weight, makes for a more even fight so critics won't be saying he was drained or he had to come all the way up, and I see the whole title fight as just part of the promotion. Just my 2 cents.
Take algieri out of the equation. Pac is testing the weight like oscar was testing 150 before he goes bact to 147. if you want to put Algierin back in, this would favor him more than pac.
