I see your point of view but you are basically supporting my reasoning that your trying to gain an advantage before the fight by making the bigger man give up his advantage, i would start by giving examples of fights of yester year when smaller mwn fought at significantly higher weights isnt tjat what proves your will and determination, what you are saying is the sam3 as if a smallwr heavyweight wanted a weight limit to a significantly heavier hw, but completely disagree with your reasoning to justify thw Leonard fight. That's why there are different weight classes so you wont have to be so much physically disadvantaged, if you feel you will be simply dont fight at the weight. Its completely absurd to fight for a title a WHOLE weight class below the title class even more so than a catchweight title fight.

And negotiating tactics do win fights. Imagine Leonard-Hagler in a smaller ring and @15 Rds.

It doesn't erase the fact that the fight was set at a catchweight of 144 for the whole 99% of training camp. Marquez was training for a 144 catchweight and he knows that floyd also was training for a 144 fight. Little did he knew that floyd has no intention of making the agreed upon catchweight which is worse than than both fighters agreeing to fight at a certain (catch)weight.

Just remove the titles and think of it as two men fighting at a certain agreed upon weight which is both ok for them. 135, 140, 147, etc are not some magical or scientifically based numbers where if you can't set at these exact weights, you can't perform satisfactorily or you would instantly be drained or bloated.

Good arguement.......With special fighters who can compete against bigger men, they'll always have that itch to move up to face the challenge of fighting Goliath.....and Goliath will always feel the smaller man is biting off more than he can chew and is willing to oblige....especially if there's a nice financial reward that awaits them if they win. And the fans always find interest in seeing a good challenge against where a small man has the stones to challenge bigger foes. It's why catch weights are always going to be threaded throughout the sport of boxing. Now there are a lot of weight classes which were supposed to help make more competitive and evenly match fights, but sometimes we see these special fighters jumping multiple weight classes to fight men who are much larger. Heavyweights are different ......the power of a man 210+ pounds can still crack the chin of most fighters it the divison if it lands on the button based on the mass of these juggernauts. The same can't be said for the smaller men campaigning at the lower divisions of the sport.

It's simple 140 fighter vs 147 fighter they meet in the middle.

147 title holder should ideally face only 147 contenders. Algieri is nowhere close to being a 147 contender as he has never fought anyone who themselves are close to being a 147 contender.

And if he's fighting a 140 fighter, they better be damn good and more proven than one victory over a guy who himself was a "one victory wonder," more or less.

We already have 17 divisions, maybe we should have 34 to avoid all
    this catchweight bullshyt.

Welterweight division is up to 147 which is what Algieri wanted. Pacroid Catchweight king said NO, 144. Why is it when Floyd makes a guy come in TWO POUNDS under but Pacroid makes Algieri come in THREE POUNDS under the division limit, Floyd is the one draining? Oh the hypocrisy ONCE AGAIN!

In my view they are both wrong in choosing the catchweights because of the title, if it was a non title bout you can give them a miniscule amount of leeway, and your point of it being hyocrisy is a bit off, as Pac is the one "draining" himßelf in this instance and Floyd was "draining" his opponent, two different set of circumstances.

I'm saying someone of Pacquiao's stature shouldn't be fighting someone of Algieri's comparatively minimal stature... Can you get that?
