Am I wrong? Was that a standing 8 count that the ref administered? Should have been stopped in the 9th.

I'll be honest, the ref was TERRIBLE. Poor knockdowns called that were actually slips and when Algieri was legitimately out, he got a long count and another standing 8 count? WTF?

Also, he was calling aligieri's bodyshots low every time, they didn't look particularly low to me.

Agreed with everything. Very suspect refereeing.

yes Pacquiao got robbed of a tko win there.the ref stepped in and stopped pac from hitting algieri and it looked he was going to stop the fight then he backed away very strange.

Apparently, he took a knee after getting dropped hard the first time around. The camera angle didn't show what happened, so I'll give the official a pass for that.

I'll also give him a pass for the long count, since it is a ten count and doesn't have to be ten seconds. He counted at the same pace on all those other occasions when Chris went down.

That said, two of the kd's were slips and a lot of Algieri's supposedly low body shots appeared to be at or above the belt line. Not a great job of officiating by the ref.

It wasnt a great job of reffing, but it was blatantly bad either way.

The slips in the corner....were all preceded by punches. Yeah, Algeri wouldnt have gone down, but who's to say Pac wouldnt have keyed in on the off balance Algeri and really put it on him.

As for the low blows.....no harm, no foul. Chris acknowledged a couple low ones trying not to be deducted, and even those were borderline, and not causing harm to Pac.
Overall, I give the ref a C+. He could have been bad if he'd been forcing Chris to fight instead of "run" as Ive seen refs do before. And his reffing didnt NOT in any way shape or form effect the outcome of the fight. 119-106 or 119-103. What's the difference.

And who's water was that in that one corner. Ever hear of a towel.:-(

Standing 8 count for NO REASON. Either you wave it off or you let the fight go on. Ref should be suspended!

Taking a knee is not a standing 8 count. Algieri wisely took a knee. While some angles make this hard to see, because the ref is in the camera angle, other angles are very clear.
It's also why Manny stopped punching, because the knee hit the ground.
