shiming ref was ok i think! he maybe talked to much sometimes but was on level. But rodriguez was garbage he called low blows that were on belt line the two slips called as KD. And also 9th round was terrible! he counted till 9 and then there must have been atleast 3 more seconds untill he decided to allow cris to continue and it should have been tko when he all of sudden decides to give a standing 8 count! So he was terrible and had it been more competitive he could have been major facor!
How is it that people can know so little about boxing? Algeri was up before ten, but that is meaningless because the ref must still determine if the fighter can continue. That determination is not within the ten count. Algeria was also smart, he turned his back to the ref, walked to the corner, then turned around. The ref couldn't immediately asses whether he could continue. The fact that Alegri had the presence to do this means he can likely continue. Plus, there was no standing 8 count. Alegri took a knee. You can see this clearly in many shots, and frankly, you can see it in every shot, though some are harder than others.
I thought the ref called everything in favor of Pac. The two KD's that you could clearly see on the overhead replay that were slips from Pac's corner, I am surprised the Ref didnt warn Pac's corner about not cleaning up the water inbetween rounds. Chris hit's Pac on the belt, Ref warns Chris. Pac hit's Chris on the belt, Chris actually turns to the Ref as if to say, "Wtf? That wasnt low but mine was?!". I really think the Ref didnt stop the fight when he could have, just to spit Chris for complaining about the lowblow calls.
well i think ref should have stoped it as he rose just at nine and the turned his back and walked away so he was not ready to continue i thought the fight was over as agileri looked unsteady. Any way i didn't want it to stop at that point wished agileri to go the distance! About that 2nd kd in 9th I saw no replay they didn't show any on channel i watched if you say algieri took knee that it is acceptabe to give a 8 count!:good
The ref really sucked. I also agree that he would've stopped the fight. Algieri definitely looked otu of there and he even turned his back to the ref like he didn't even wanted to continue. But it seems like he's the only one available to ref in China, this is the third time in 2 years he has worked out there (he also did Pacquiao-Rios a yer ago tonight).
The guy who was ref before pac fight is a filipino ref, I noticed he was part of pacs crew who walked him in the ring. Very unprofessional of a ref.
The ref for the G ayweather Maidana 2 fight was way worst. The ref even yelled out NO! before Maidana threw his pillow bomb.
I say that his not that terrible, however he should have stop the fight during the knock downs on the ninth round as it was clearly Algieri has no chance in winning the fight. Just my humble opinion.
The ref could have stopped it after the first knockdown in the 9th. Alegiri was unsteady, but he did come forward when asked, he responded to the ref's commands. Normally, that means it is not stopped. Alegiri fought smart to make it out of the 9th. He fought back just enough to prevent the TKO, he took a knee, he did everything a hurt fighter could do in that situation. That shows the mental capacity to continue, so in my opinion he should be allowed to continue. Had the ref stopped it, it wouldn't have been a horrible stoppage by any means, but allowing the fight to continue wasn't unwarranted either. Even the slips that were called knockdowns could be ruled a knockdown. I probably wouldn't have ruled it as such, but he went down after taking a punch. If you are off balance and take a punch and hit the ground, it's a knockdown. Alegiri was off balance wide, took a wide step back as he got hit and couldn't get his leg under him and went down. Would he have slipped without the punch? He didn't slip in that spot without getting hit. Though I wish they would stop with allowing corners to get that wet, and take off the stupid advertising on the mat as well, fighters slip on that all the time.
