OK, so this thread is back.
Calzaghe would be a huge underdog and rightfully so. However when you have his kind of talent and highly evolved boxing brain anything can happen.
Do you really think he would fight a heavyweight like he fought super middleweights and light heavyweight? No, he would adopt to the man in front of him. With all his great abilities, his boxing mind could be his greatest asset.

his boxing mind would tell him to hide in newbridge should Louis come knocking, and yes that would indeed keep joe undefeated against Louis - by avoiding him like the plague.

This is an anti Louis thread, plain and simple.

Of course you can make a case for Calzaghe having a chance, but it is not a very good one, and there is no conceivable case for installing him as favourite.

A common tactic for attacking a fighter on this site, is to try to find the worst opponent that some people might favour over them, even misguidedly!

When people bring up Louis' fight with Conn in making a case against Joe, they often overlook that it ended with Conn flat on his face taking the full count!

Calzaghe can cause Louis problems; he's a southpaw, fairly savvy with an awkward, active style, and he'd be the same size or bigger as various fighters who actually did trouble Louis. However Louis' own strengths are eventually going to come into play, as they did again Conn. Louis by KO mid-rounds.

it would comical watching jabbering joe trying to run away from JL until William gets brutally koed early.

but in reality joe is not getting in the ring with anyone with 1/5th the ability of louis

Joe Calzaghe was a good fighter, but Joe Louis would absolutely ruin him.

all that's missing from that for the Louis fight is joe being carried back to his corner by the welsh ref (yes, it happens in wales, don't deny it! we all saw clev getting hoiked up by the ref).

    so much fakery its unbelievable.

Because people are even asking the question.

Do you expect to see a Mike Tyson vs Joe Calzaghe thread any time soon?

How about Vitally Klitschko vs Joe Calzaghe?

The whole point of starting the thread, is to imply that the question is worth asking!

If one goes purely on the trend of thought that Louis looked beatable against Conn it is not an sane thread. That being said, the odds would be pretty slim.
